If You Don't Wanna Love Me
James Morrison Lyrics

So deep that I
I can't get out
And when you're lost, lost and alone
Yes you'd think it was a liars place
You'd come back for more
If you don't want me to leave
Then don't push me away
But I'm going nowhere
I'm gonna stay
When you just wanna fight
When you're closing you're eyes
'Cause you don't wanna love me
I'm gonna stay
You can't push me too far
There's no space in my heart
When I don't wanna love you
The lyrics of James Morrison's "If You Don't Wanna Love Me" portrays a message of staying committed and loyal to one's love, despite physical or emotional difficulties. The opening line of the song, "When you lower me down so deep that I can't get out," creates an intense image of being trapped or helpless in a situation. Morrison is suggesting that he is committed to his love, but sometimes, the situation may seem overwhelming and challenging.
The second verse of the song continues the theme of loyalty and staying true to one's love. The line "When you're lost, lost and alone, yes you'd think it was a liars place, you'd come back for more" illustrates the idea that even when things may seem darkest in a relationship, the love between the two partners can still shine through. Despite the challenges, the love that the two share will always overcome any obstacle.
The chorus of the song, "If you don't want me to leave, then don't push me away, rather blow out the lights you can watch it all fade, but I'm going nowhere, I'm gonna stay," is a plea to the other partner not to push away their love but to rather embrace it wholeheartedly. Morrison is asking his love not to run away from him but rather to work together to resolve any disagreement or difficult situation. The entire song conveys an inner struggle between the need to stay and the fear of being rejected by one's love.

When you lower me down
When you bring me down to a low point
So deep that I
So deep that I can't see a way out
I can't get out
I feel trapped and unable to escape
And when you're lost, lost and alone
And when you feel lost and alone
Yes you'd think it was a liars place
It may seem like a place for dishonesty
You'd come back for more
Despite that, you would return
If you don't want me to leave
If you want me to stay
Then don't push me away
Don't distance yourself from me
Rather blow out the lights you can watch it all fade
Instead, let's create an ambiance and enjoy the moment
But I'm going nowhere
But I'm not leaving you
I'm gonna stay
I'm committed to staying with you
When you just wanna fight
When you're ready to argue
When you're closing you're eyes
When you're trying to shut me out
'Cause you don't wanna love me
Because you're afraid of getting hurt
I'm gonna stay
I'm still committed to staying with you
You can't push me too far
You can't make me give up on you easily
There's no space in my heart
There's no room for anyone else in my heart
When I don't wanna love you
When I'm struggling with my own feelings for you
