Save Yourself
James Morrison Lyrics

To make the best, for us
But I'm just the same
Same as I ever was
Oh and if you stay with me
Obviously it's what I want
But if you stay with me
[Chorus]
So won't you save, save yourself
By leaving me now
For someone else
If I'm crying out
Don't listen to it
It's all in my heart
Save yourself
It's all in my heart
Oh no
So tell me I'm gone
Please won't you change, my mind
This feels so intense
Sometimes it can lead, you back
Oh and if you stay with me
Obviously it's what I want
But if you stay with me
I know I'll hurt you more
[Chorus]
Save yourself
And I don't want to let you go
But I know
It's the right thing to do baby
And I don't think I'm that strong
To say goodbye
I don't wanna see you cry
So won't you save, save yourself
By leaving me now
For someone else
If I'm crying out
Don't listen to it
It's all in my heart
Save yourself
In James Morrison's song, "Save Yourself," the singer is grappling with the realization that, despite his best intentions, he is still the same person he always was. He is making an effort to change for the betterment of his partner and their relationship, but he is aware that he will ultimately hurt her if she stays with him. The singer believes that his intense emotions make him a liability to his partner and that leaving him would be the best course of action to "save herself."
In the chorus, the singer implores his partner to "save yourself" by leaving him for someone else. He acknowledges that if she stays with him, he will not be able to control his inevitable actions, which will hurt her more than if she were to leave. The singer is aware that his partner is important to him, and he does not want to let her go, but he also understands that it is the right thing to do in the end.
The song explores the complexities of relationships and the internal struggles that come with trying to change oneself. The lyrics convey a sense of desperation and vulnerability, as though the singer is begging his partner to leave him for her own good. The song also comments on the self-imposed limitations that one might face in relationships, acknowledging that sometimes the best thing for both parties is to let go.
