Taylor and King first met - briefly - in the 60s at the Night Owl Café in Greenwich Village. James was a shy teenager. Carole, although only in her mid-twenties, was already a legendary songwriter, but not yet a performer. She began finding her way toward being comfortable as an entertainer as part of James Taylor's band. Taylor's version of King's "You've Got a Friend" became a number one hit in the summer of 1971 and won a Grammy. In that same year, King's album 'Tapestry' reached number one and stayed there for a remarkable 15 weeks. It would eventually sell 22 million copies. Despite this success, King carried on touring with Taylor. They played L.A.'s Troubadour in the spring for a two-week co-starring run.'
At Thanksgiving in 2007, James and Carole returned to the Troubadour for a sentimental journey through their old set list, including performances of the pair's most beloved hits such as "You've Got a Friend", King's "So Far Away," "It's Too Late," and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", as well as Taylor's "Carolina in My Mind," "Sweet Baby James," and "Fire and Rain," to name just a few.
Will You Love Me Tomorrow
James Taylor & Carole King Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight, the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow?
Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure
Can I believe the magic of your sighs
Tonight, with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night (when the night)
Meets the morning sun?
I'd like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow?
Will you still love me tomorrow?
The lyrics of James Taylor and Carole King's "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" are a contemplation of the future of a relationship that is happening in the present moment. The song expresses the doubts that arise in one's mind about the longevity of the love they are experiencing. The singer acknowledges that they are feeling loved and cherished by their partner at the moment, but the question that remains is whether or not it will last.
The lyrics focus on the uncertainty and vulnerability that come with falling in love. The singer wonders whether the love they feel now is something that will last, or simply a fleeting moment of passion. While the singer wants to believe in the magic of their partner's love, they are also afraid of being hurt if it turns out to be temporary. Ultimately, the song is a plea for honesty and reassurance from the partner, a desire to know whether their love will be lasting or simply a passing fancy.
Overall, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" is a poignant and introspective exploration of the uncertainty and risk that come with love. Its lyrics capture the complexities of falling in love and the fears that can arise when one is unsure of their partner's true intentions and feelings.

Carole King was my mom’s all time favorite singer. Her Tapestry album is just so amazing and when I listen to it, it’s like I know my mom is watching over me from heaven.
