Compass (Red Dead On Arrival V
Jamie Lidell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And now I know the only compass that I need
Is the one leads back to you
And I know the only compass that I need
Is the one leads back to you

And the burning blisters on my feet will call
To hold me as I'm close to fall
Away from the home of your arms I stray
Off the radar and into harm's way

Now I know the only compass that I need
Is the one that leads back to you

Yea coffee wakes the hand again
Coaxing letters from the pen
But words just sit like empty scribbles
Such empty caffeinated riddles

Only a heart knows where I've been
Only a heart knows where I've been
Only your heart knows where I've been

Now I know the only compass that I need
Is the one leads back to you
Now I know the only compass that I need
Is the one leads back to you

Only your heart knows where I've been
Low down, low down, low down in the westside of town
Can't hold my head up high so I'm licking the ground
Tasting my dirt cries and drinking their sound

Low low, westside of town
Needing to tease out the knots and the tangles
Join up the dots, find the yolk in the scrambles
Find a soft clearing somewhere in the shambles

Take a knife to the bush of brambles
And clear the way

Overall Meaning

In Jamie Lidell's song "Compass (Red Dead On Arrival V)," he is expressing his desire to find his way back to his loved one. He realizes that his only guide and true direction is towards this one person as he repeats the lyrics, "And now I know the only compass that I need is the one leads back to you." Despite the challenges he faces, as described in the lines "And the burning blisters on my feet will call, to hold me as I'm close to fall," he still recognizes that his journey must lead him back to his significant other, where he can find solace in their embrace.

The songwriter goes on to explain the hollowness he feels as he writes, "But words just sit like empty scribbles, such empty caffeinated riddles." He recognizes that only his heart and his loved one truly know where he's been and where he's headed. The repetition of the line "Only your heart knows where I've been" further emphasizes this point. The final stanza of the song sees Lidell exploring the idea of being lost and needing to find his way again. He details his struggles and the obstacles that he faces, but still turns to his compass, his loved one, to guide him back to where he belongs.

Overall, "Compass (Red Dead On Arrival V)" is a song about finding direction in life. Whether it's through our loved ones, our passions, or our personal beliefs, we all need something to guide us through life's struggles and challenges. For Jamie Lidell, the answer is clear - his only compass is the one that leads him back to his loved one.

If that were the case, RDR2 would’ve been called RDR3
But it’s not, so you’re wrong
Revolver’s story isn’t related to RDR1 other than the Red Dead name
Not to mention another developer worked on revolver for years prior to R* getting the rights to it so Revolver wasn’t even initially made by R*

This reminds me of the dumbasses that kept saying RDR2 wasn’t going to be called RDR2 when it was first announced, and that it was going to be called RDR3 ONLY because of Revolver
And then it came out and it was called RDR2
Wanna know why? Because they’re two separate stories held together only by name
