Night Air
Jamie Woon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Night air has the strangest flavor
Space to breathe it, time to savor
All that night air has to lend me
Till the morning makes me angry
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air

I've acquired a kind of madness
Daylight fills my heart with sadness
And only silent skies can sooth me
Feel that night air flowing through me
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air

I don't need those car crash colors
I control the skies above us
Close my eyes to make the night fall
Comfort of the world revolving
I can hear the earth in orbit
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air

I've acquired a taste for silence
Darkness fills my heart with comfort
And each thought like a thief is driven
To steal the night air from the heavens

In the night air
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air

In the night air
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air
In the night air

In the night air
In the night air

Overall Meaning

In Jamie Woon's song "Night Air," the singer is describing his love for the night air and the solace it brings him. He explains how he savors the "strangest flavor" of the night air and how it flows through him, soothing him like nothing else can. He contrasts this with the sadness he feels during daylight hours, where he has acquired a kind of madness that is only cured by the night air.

Woon goes on to describe how he doesn't need the "car crash colors" of daytime and instead controls the skies above him. He finds comfort in the world revolving and can even hear the earth in orbit. He has acquired a taste for silence, and each thought is like a thief trying to steal the night air from the heavens, reinforcing the idea that the night air is his sanctuary.

The lyrics suggest that the night air serves as a source of comfort and solace for the singer, providing him with an escape from the chaos of the world. It's a reminder that we all have our own personal sanctuaries that grant us peace, and in this case, it's the night air.

High five from another one who feels strongly for this song! And who tends to stay up late.
Sounds I know and whose atmosphere I found spontaneaously at least a little similar to Night Air:

- Craig Armstrong's "Af if to Nothing" album
- Portishead' "Dummy" album
- parts of Gotye's "Making mirrors" album, p.e. "Don't worry, we'll be watching you"
- parts of Eurythmics`"Sweet Dreams" and "Touch" albums, p.e. "This city never sleeps"
- the song "Losing sleep" (he, I sense a pattern) by Vangelis
- the song "One step too far" by Faithless
- the song "Drinking and driving" by Jhene Aiko

Many of them lack the gentle club beat Night Air has, though. Checking webpages like allmusic for Jamie and then search for his influences or similar music there might also give you some nice results.

I'm pretty sure he chose to be independent. I remember he had a lot of exposure at the same time as Sam Smith. Back in the day when Sam made great music, i guess he is kinda getting back to his roots now. I love Jamie because he cares more about the music than actual fame and money.

I've heard this song once before at a party in 2012 and thought it was very catchy. After that I forgot about it completely. Now in 2021 it popped into my mind out of nowhere and went on a mission searching for it and I gotta say, this song aged very well like a good Scotch and have been listening to it for days in a row now. Absolute Talent Mr. Woon! Cheers from the Netherlands
