Blue Skies
Jamiroquai Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So these are the figurines
Acting out all the scenes before my eyes
I thought I knew them all by name
But they started looking much the same
And it's no surprise

But I don't wanna listen
Too much
How can I give up on all the days I know I've won
There's nothing but rainbows
I believe in the shadows

Now honey
Thought I might be dropping out
But now I am gonna work it out
I am gonna work with me
I am runnin' like it looser
Then I'm rolling like sea rusty ship on a stormy sea

You know that people are saying
Strange things

Talk to the hand 'cause I know you think the face is gone

I don't wanna listen
Too much
I'm not gonna give up on all the days I know I've won
There's nothing but blue sky
There's nothing but blue sky

Nothings gonna stop me now
I am skimming like a skipping stone on a silver lake
I take it when the chips are down
But to play the perfect happy clown
You gotta make a mistake (gotta make mistakes)

People are saying
Strange things
And I don't wanna listen (i don't wanna listen)
Too much yeah

Nothing but blue sky
Blue sky

How can I tell you I know this wont be the last song
I don't wanna listen (i don't wanna listen)
Too much
Not gonna give up on the days I know I've won

That's where I am going
'Cause there is nothing nothing but blue sky
That's where I am going
Nothing but
Rainbows falling down on me uh yeah heyyy

Nothing but blue sky
Can't you see
That's where I am going

Got to believe me
That's where I am going

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Blue Skies" by Jamiroquai reflect a sense of hopeful optimism and perseverance in the face of adversity. The singer observes the "figurines" - the people and situations in his life - but notes a sense of repetition and predictability in them. Nevertheless, he refuses to give up or listen too much to negativity from others, as he believes in the possibility of bright, sunny "blue skies" ahead. The singer resolves to work things out and keep going, acknowledging that mistakes may be part of that journey.

The song's message of resilience and hope is conveyed through the upbeat, infectious groove of the music. The funky bassline, lively percussion, and soaring vocals invite the listener to join in the singer's determination to press on and find the blue skies beyond the rain. The lyrics paint vivid images of a sea voyage, skipping stones, and rainbows falling down, reinforcing the idea of an adventurous and joyful journey.

Overall, "Blue Skies" is a feel-good anthem that encourages positivity and determination. It reminds listeners that even in difficult times, there is always the possibility of brighter days ahead if we keep moving forward.

This has just as much of the groove and classic spirit of Jamiroquai, slowed down into a 70s pop disco ballad. I don't see how fans can complain. It follows in the same vein of what he was already doing, just more matured. Its great to see such a talented musician evolve.

@softdrinksalesman

When I started "Rock Dust Light Star" I too took a while warming up to it, but you're right, despite this album (and this song especially) being wildly different from the rest of their discography that goes heavy on the funk, disco, and R&B influence, it's still classic Jamiroquai. I suppose why many people don't instantly enjoy it is because of two things: the mismanagement of press it got (or lack thereof) and how it sounds very dated – like I could immediately tell that this came out in the late 00s/early 10s because of the percussion and blend of acoustic and electric guitar that was popular with top 40s hits at the time. Plus Jay's vocals are mixed in such a way where they sound crisp as ever (like he's singing right into your ear, if you're wearing headphones) which isn't inherently a bad thing, but it can absolutely take some getting used to; especially if you're listening to the albums in order and you're just coming off of albums like "A Funk Odyssey" and "Dynamite", where due to technological limits at the time of producing them and what was popular in the industry, vocals simply weren't recorded like the way they are here. Idk maybe I'm overthinking this lol. TL;DR The mixing on RDLS is just really weird, but it's still good lmao.
