Love Dont Cost A Thing
Jennifer Lopez Lyrics

You think you gotta keep me iced (You don't)
You think I'm gonna spend your cash (I won't)
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz (I don't)
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

When you rolled up in the Escalade
Saw that truck you gave to the valet
Knew that it was game when you looked at me
Pulling up your sleeve so I could see the Rolley bling
Saw you later in the corner booth
Raising up a toast so I would notice you
But your heart's a mess
Think you outta know
Doesn't matter if you're balling out of control

All that matter's is
That you treat me right
Give me all the things I need
That money can't buy yeah

You think you gotta keep me iced (You don't)
You think I'm gonna spend your cash (I won't)
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz (I don't)
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

When I took a chance
Thought you'd understand
Baby credit cards aren't romance
So you're tryna buy what's already yours
What I need from is not available in stores
Seen a side of you that I really feel
Doing way too much, never keep it real
If it doesn't change, gotta hit the road
Now I'm leaving, where's my keys?
I've got to go

All that matter's is
That you treat me right
Give me all the things I need
That money can't buy yeah

You think you gotta keep me iced (You don't)
You think I'm gonna spend your cash (I won't)
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz (I don't)
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

A thing, a thing, a thing
Yeah, yeah, yeah
You think the money that you make
Can substitute the time you take
Take the keys here to my heart
Then you can win my heart, and get what's in my heart
I think you need to take some time
To show me that your love is true
There's more than dollar signs in you
Then you can win my heart, and get what's in my heart

You think you gotta keep me iced (You don't)
You think I'm gonna spend your cash (I won't)
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz (I don't)
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

You think you gotta keep me iced (You don't)
You think I'm gonna spend your cash (I won't)
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz (I don't)
If I wanna floss I got my own
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

You think you gotta keep me iced (You don't)
You think I'm gonna spend your cash (I won't)
Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing
Think I wanna drive your Benz (I don't)
If I wanna floss I got my own

Even if you were broke
My love don't cost a thing

Overall Meaning

In "Love Don't Cost A Thing," Jennifer Lopez sings about how she doesn't need a man to shower her with material possessions to be happy in a relationship, but rather she wants true love and affection. She mocks men who believe that they have to impress her with money, saying that it won't make her fall in love with them. The chorus repeats this message that her love doesn't cost a thing, and that even if they were broke, she wouldn't care as long as they treated her right.

The song expresses a feminist message that you can’t buy love and it also deconstructs the societal gender norms that men must provide and impress women with material possessions. Lopez highlights the importance of how empowering it is to own themselves and their own money. Furthermore, the song also shows how these types of relationships where one partner is using money to try to control or manipulate the other aren't healthy or sustainable.

Overall the song is an anthem to self-love and rejecting materialistic attitudes in relationships. It is bold, empowering and showcases Lopez's message of strength and confidence.

When Jennifer says love dont cost a thing. She means it doesnt cost money. Yet it cost much more. The only way it can be felt is if we free ourself from our own pride. Which is the hardest thing to do for a human being. It can only be achieve with the support of something not human. Our creator. Love doesnt come from outside but within. God is love and we were made by love. We cannot seek what we are, we just have to share it. As soon as thats understood everything falls into place.
