Rhapsody In Red
Jerry Garcia Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I love to hear that Rhapsody in Red
It just knocks me right outa my head
Lifts me up here just floatin' around
Sends me way up and it don't let down

I love to hear that Rhapsody in Red
On my feet or laid back in my bed
Takes me way back where I don't mind
Takes me way back in my time, in my time

Sail away on that Rhapsody in Red
Don't care where those other rainbows led
With all those Northern lights just blowin' away
Got no thought to relate in the same old way, anyway

Love to feel it flood down to my soul
Lovin' feel just like days of old

I sing blues where has it led
Gimmie some more Rhapsody in Red, in Red

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jerry Garcia's "Rhapsody in Red" describe the transformative power of music, specifically the titular tune, which sends the singer on a journey through time and lifts him out of his normal headspace. The singer expresses an almost physical response to the music, feeling as though he is floating and flooded by it. The song seems to be a kind of escape for him, allowing him to forget about other obligations or distractions and just revel in the experience of the music.

Even my friends that hate The Dead, because of me, love this song

@esmeraldo7887

Man-o-man, I love this song. It sounds like a Bob Seger song in a lot of (good) ways - tough and greasy. I first heard it when I came out of a long backpacking trip in Yellowstone and my friends and I came out the woods into some Wyoming dive looking for a hot meal and beers. We walked in and the place was jumping an this song was blasting and things were allllright.

@kathiw3720

excuse me Marisol, u know I mean Kathy Lennon w Ritchie Blackmore (-or perfume) to hide identity, because now im asking for a closer National family, if this one can't get it right? So, I turn around to Ian Gillian, Ozzy Osbourne, and Tony Iommi, n there is no Deep Purple job there.

@kathiw3720

I am Winstonian- I meant to be vac VA,.in 1968, so everyone could leave the Illonis house, except me + Ritchie (Blackmore)- which i didn't know his name then, guess mom, before all Yoko's digital fraud-takes Bonnies stupid play toy thing w, and enters Kathy Lennon w Ritchie Blackmore, Renaldo C, etc. so I can stay w Ritchie there while Jannis J is excorted to the police? So, whatya gonna do now, let me go with his lil friends Ian Gillian, Tony Iomi, and Ozzy, cuz I've already been to Neil's - Capital Arrista we r talking about, and there is no you.
