Tore Up Over You
Jerry Garcia Band Lyrics

Ever since you've been gone
I just cry the whole night long
Since the day you said good-bye
You hurt me so, no lie, no lie
Tore up over you and just can't find my way

Tore up, yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up
Tore up, yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up
Tore up over you and I just can't find my way

You never loved me like you told me so
If you did, how could you go?
It was you, not me that left
And went away with someone else
Tore up over you and I just can't find my way

Tore up, yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up
Tore up, yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up
Tore up over you and I just can't find my way

Tell me what did I do
To make you go away
Tell me what can I do
To make you come back to stay
I'm tore up over you and I just can't find my way

Tore up, yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up

Tore up, yeah, yeah, yeah, tore up
Tore up over you and I just can't find my way

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jerry Garcia Band's "Tore Up Over You" explore the feelings of heartbreak and loss that one experiences after a breakup. The song describes the singer's struggle to cope with the pain of separation from their lover. The first verse sets the stage for the theme of the song, with the singer expressing their sadness at crying all night since their lover told them goodbye. In the chorus, the singer admits to being "tore up" over their lost relationship but cannot seem to find their way back to happiness without their former lover.

The second verse speaks to the frustration and confusion of being left for another person. The singer questions how their lover could have left them if they truly loved them as they said they did. The chorus continues, with the singer admitting that they are still "tore up" even though their lover was the one who left. The final verse pleads with the lover to explain why they left and asks what could be done to bring them back. Despite this, the chorus repeats, and the singer remains "tore up" and lost without their lover.

Overall, "Tore Up Over You" is a poignant ballad that captures the heartache and confusion of a breakup. The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has experienced the pain of losing a relationship and the struggle of trying to move on.

I was at these shows. Jerry rocks. I lived at the Capitol in my teenage years. What a venue.

I don't understand why people don't get how amazing he was. You my friend are blessed to have seen these shows. I seen the dead in 95 but it was at the end. Great memories for me, hanging with me hippies at 15 years old. Thanks for your story

@jackstraw61

I was there as well. They broadcast the early show on the radio which my brother taped, and this I believe is the late show. I saw a show in November 77 at the Cap and this one. Also, a great NRPS show with Roger McGuinn and Gene Clark opening!
