The Dawn

This was meant to be
There'll come a time, you'll be free
But don't wait for me
Cause I'll be gone, gone, gone
I'll be gone, gone, gone
I'll be gone, gone, gone
Before the dawn
And set the captive free
And when the sun shines on me
My love with you will be
Cause I'll be gone, gone, gone
I'll be gone, gone, gone
I'll be gone, gone, gone, gone
Before the dawn
Before the dawn
I'll be gone before the morning
Gone before the dawning
Gone before the sun shines on me
O Caroline, can't you see
This was meant to be
There'll come a time, you'll be free
But don't wait for me
Cause I'll be gone, gone, gone
I'll be gone, gone, gone
I'll be gone, gone, gone, gone
Before the dawn
Before the dawn
Cause I'll be gone, gone, gone
I'll be gone, gone, gone
I'll be gone, gone, gone, gone
Before the dawn
Before the dawn
Yes I'll be gone, gone, gone
Yes I'll be gone, gone, gone
The lyrics of "The Dawn" by Jervis & Meat Feat. Donna speak of a bittersweet love that was not meant to last. The singer, addressing Caroline, acknowledges their strong connection and the inevitability that Caroline will eventually find freedom. However, the singer realizes that they will not be in the picture when this time comes. They express their departure and disappearance, emphasizing it with repetition, as they will be "gone, gone, gone" before the dawn, before the morning, and before the sun shines on them.
The singer conveys a sense of resignation and acceptance of the situation. Although there is a deep emotional bond between the two, the singer recognizes that their presence will not be a part of Caroline's future journey towards freedom. They encourage Caroline not to wait for them, hinting that it would be futile, as they will be gone before the dawn.
The repetition of the phrase "gone, gone, gone" underscores the singer's certainty of their departure and highlights the finality of the situation. The song's overall tone is one of longing and melancholy, capturing the sadness and recognition that ultimately, love cannot always fulfill its promises.

O Caroline, can't you see
Caroline, can't you understand
This was meant to be
Our connection was fated
There'll come a time, you'll be free
You will find your freedom in time
But don't wait for me
However, don't wait for me
Cause I'll be gone, gone, gone
Because I will no longer be here
Before the dawn
Before the sunrise
Run, river, run, to the sea
Flow, river, flow towards the sea
And set the captive free
And release the one who is trapped
And when the sun shines on me
And when the sunlight touches me
My love with you will be
My love will remain with you
Cause I'll be gone, gone, gone
Because I will no longer be here
Before the dawn
Before the sunrise
Before the dawn
Before the sunrise
I'll be gone before the morning
I will be absent before morning arrives
Gone before the dawning
Missing before the break of day
Gone before the sun shines on me
Absent before the sunlight reaches me
O Caroline, can't you see
Caroline, can't you understand
This was meant to be
Our connection was fated
There'll come a time, you'll be free
You will find your freedom in time
But don't wait for me
However, don't wait for me
Cause I'll be gone, gone, gone
Because I will no longer be here
Before the dawn
Before the sunrise
Before the dawn
Before the sunrise
Cause I'll be gone, gone, gone
Because I will no longer be here
I'll be gone, gone, gone
I will be absent, absent, absent
I'll be gone, gone, gone, gone
I will be absent, absent, absent, absent
Before the dawn
Before the sunrise
Before the dawn
Before the sunrise
Yes I'll be gone, gone, gone
Indeed, I will be absent, absent, absent
Yes I'll be gone, gone, gone
Indeed, I will be absent, absent, absent
