In 2001, while working at a recording studio in LA, Jes met Mike Olson. The two formed Guardians of the Earth, which was a former successful on MP3.com with songs like Starchildren and One Moon Circling. Starchildren was included on Paul van Dyk’s 2001 Ministry of Sound compilation, The Politics of Dancing. Jes has also collaborated with producers such as D:Fuse, Deepsky and Solar Stone, producing tracks like Living The Dream, Ghost, and Like A Waterfall. The latter track appears on the compilation album In Search of Sunrise 4 by Tiësto, who she also appeared alongside with on selected dates during his Tiësto In Concert Tour.
Jes's most well known work to date is her collaboration with Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden (of Gabriel & Dresden), which led to the formation of the group Motorcycle. Their 2003 hit As the Rush Comes was a number one single on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart in 2004, on which it also became the first year-end number one Dance Airplay track of the same year. As the Rush Comes gave Jes international exposure, which then allowed her to perform in larger venues and festivals like Bacardi Festival (Lebanon), Fresh (Malta), World Electronic Music Festival (Toronto), Escape In The Park (Wales), Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and Red Rocks Amphitheatre (Denver).
In 2006, the song Ghost was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.
Working with producers Steve Sidelnyk and Sean Spuehler, Jes recorded her debut solo album Disconnect, which was released in August 2007 on Tiësto’s Black Hole Recordings and Magik Muzik.

Around You
Jes Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The rejection
Take it away
I found my religion
Waiting in your pickup
All the time
Crazy wired
But everybody's had you
Makes no difference
Who you've got
Around you
Everybody needs to
Have a little bit of you
Before they fade away
Around you
Were you to messed up to notice
I've been away
Made my decision
Hiding in a doorway
Praying for
Some mid-night pride
Everybody wants you
Everybody's had you
Makes no difference
Who you've got
Around you
Everybody needs to
Have a little piece of you
Before they fade away
Around you
So gather down town
I might be singing today
A round about song
Of love to be
And how we
Carry on , carry on, carry on
Everybody wants you
Everybody's had you
Makes no difference
Who you've got
Around you
Everybody needs to
Have a little piece of you
Before they fade away
Around you
The song "Around You" by Jes is a contemplation of a love interest who seems to be very popular and desirable. The singer seems to have been rejected by this person and is seeking help to get over it. She found solace in that moment when she was with this person, who is referred to as her "religion". She reminisces about spending time in his vehicle, which was the highlight of her day. Despite her feelings, she acknowledges that many other people have had this person, and it does not really matter who he has around him.
In the second verse, the singer feels hurt by this person's lack of attention towards her, and she has made the decision to move away. She prays for some courage to confront him, but it seems that it never materializes. In the bridge, she imagines performing in front of the downtown crowd, singing a song of love that is carrying on.
The lyrics of this song are quite intriguing as they delve into the insecurities and vulnerabilities that come with loving someone who seems to be very popular amongst people. The phrase "my religion" is indicative of how deeply the singer feels for this person and how much they rely on them to get by. The notion that the singer is singing about the person even though they have left them, is a poignant reminder of how powerful love can be, even after things have ended.
