The lead single from the album, Right Where You Want Me, began receiving airplay on July 11, 2006. McCartney released his third album, Departure, on May 20, 2008 in the United States and Canada. Musically, it is a departure from his early works, showing mature themes. The album has reached number 14 on the Billboard 200. The album's lead single Leavin' was released in March 2008, and reached number (10) on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks, giving McCartney his highest-charting single to date. He also did solo shows at theaters and small venues to support the album while on tour with Sparks.

I gotta have it, it keeps callin' for me
I need a fix, a quick hit
My body's achin', hands are shakin' for it
It's like dope man, 'cause it's so dope man
I'm a customer get serviced on the regular
With that drug man, it keeps me up man
Can't get enough, no I can't get enough
It's like a blood rush straight to my head
When I think about you in my bed
She's all up in my veins, ooh I got addicted
Her love is so addictive it took over me
She's all up in my veins, it's like I got a shot
Injection to my heart, it flows through my body
She's all up in my veins and I need it everyday
Good lovin', oh baby, ooh yeah, ooh yeah
She's all up in my veins, veins, veins
She's all up in my veins, veins, veins, ooh, oh
Take the car, the keys to the crib
The pin number to the ATM
All my money, you can have it all
For a hit, hit, hit
Ain't no rehab gon' help because I'm feelin' out of control
You're the medicine baby, rock me up for one more dose
I'm high as a kite now
Ooh, and I'm floating on cloud nine
It's like a blood rush straight to my head
When I think about you in my bed
She's all up in my veins, ooh I got addicted
Her love is so addictive it took over me
She's all up in my veins, it's like I got a shot
Injection to my heart, it flows through my body
She's all up in my veins and I need it everyday
Good lovin', oh baby, ooh yeah, ooh yeah
She's all up in my veins, veins, veins
She's all up in my veins, veins, veins, ooh, oh
Shawty, the love you give it's so insane
It's like ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh
Shawty the love you give it's on my brain
It's like ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh, ooh ooh
Are you ready? 'Cause I'm ready
Ooh ooh, are you ready? 'Cause I'm ready
Girl, get ready, 'cause I'm ready
Ooh, ooh, ooh, girl I'm addicted to you
She's all up in my veins, ooh I got addicted
Her love is so addictive it took over me
She's all up in my veins, it's like I got a shot
Injection to my heart, it flows through my body
She's all up in my veins and I need it everyday
Good lovin', oh baby, ooh yeah, ooh yeah
She's all up in my veins, veins, veins
She's all up in my veins, veins, veins, ooh, oh
She's all up in my veins, yeah
She's all up in my veins
The song "In My Veins" by Jesse McCartney is about the all-consuming addiction to a person's love. The lyrics use metaphors comparing the love to a drug, with the singer as the addict and the love interest as the drug. The singer is a junkie, a fiend, and an addict who can't resist the feeling his love interest provides. He describes his love interest as an addiction that is so deep, she's "all up in my veins." The addiction is so strong that he's willing to give everything up for another hit, and even rehab can't help him.
The chorus repeats the addiction metaphor with more emphasis, stating her love is so addictive it took over him, and it's like an injection flowing through his body. The singer cannot get enough, and he feels like he's floating on cloud nine. The bridge compares the love interest's love to an insane, mind-altering high that he can't resist. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, emphasizing the addiction metaphor once more.
Overall, "In My Veins" is an excellent example of a metaphorical song that uses addiction to represent love. The lyrics are compelling and relatable to anyone who has ever felt like they're addicted to someone's love.
