Someday
Jessica Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never met your dad
You lost him when you were just 10

I know you wish he was here
So you could leave him a call or a message
But there’s no cell reception in heaven

But if he were here, he would tell you you’re strong
And thank you for taking good care of your mom
I could say he’s been there all along
But that can’t come from anyone else

Someday he’ll tell you himself
Someday he’ll tell you himself

If I could just change the past
I’d want to give you the chance

For you tell him goodbye
It all happened too fast
Forced to face the cruel fact

That you couldn’t just say what you wanted to say
Before life was so ruthless and ripped him away
Cause it’s never been fair that you lived through that pain
But you did

And if he were here, he would tell you you’re strong
And thank you for taking good care of your mom
And say more than I can put in a song
Cuz that can’t come from anyone else

Someday he’ll tell you himself
Someday he’ll tell you himself

I never met your dad
But I feel like I know him through you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Jessica's song "Someday" express a feeling of regret and longing for a loved one who has passed. Specifically, the song is about the pain and loss felt by someone whose father died when they were just ten years old. The opening lines speak to the fact that the singer never had the chance to meet this person, but they know how important he was to the person they are singing to. The chorus holds out hope that someday this individual will be able to hear directly from their father's mouth that they are loved, strong and that their sacrifices for their family were appreciated.

The lyrics are poignant and emotional, resonating with anyone who has lost a loved one, particularly at a young age. The song echoes key themes of grief, regret and loss, while also conveying a sense of hope that there is a way forward, even in the face of overwhelming loss. The song also contains a subtle message about the importance of taking care of those left behind after a family member's death.

this song holds the most special place in heart. i knew i wanted to write a song for Sam in honor of his dad but trying to put the right words into place felt like an intimidating task. it was a very emotional writing session where everyone was crying and i was a bit concerned as to how i was going to get through recording the vocals but we did it! the outro of this song has Sam, his mom & his brother humming along with me, which made this track that much more special!

i hope this song connects and helps anyone who has lost a loved one. they really are watching over you and someday you will see them again 🀍

for those of you who don’t know, Sam lost his dad to ALS. a disease that takes a life every 90 minutes. i’ve decided to donate 10% of this songs revenue to the ALS Association and will have a fundraiser on my profile for anyone who would like to donate and help fund research for finding a cure.

That was the same disease that my mums dad had so hearing that someone else feels my the same pain as me has really helped me get through these tough years. Tell Sam that he can get through all of this everyone has the up and down days. He is the most brave person on the face of the plant to tell his story about his father. I am really proud of him that is a very heart felt thing to talk about and that he did that makes him so vulnerable but people like me are here and know how he feels.

I love all of your videos and songs, they are amazing. Keep going with your YouTube channel they are so inspiring.

My father passed away when I was 10....three days after my 10th birthday. I'm 18 now and balling my eyes out after my boyfriend of 4 years and best friend of 10 sent me this! We've been best friends since we were 7 and was there for me through it all. This song is heartbreakingly beautiful❀️
