Wonder
Jessica Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wonder where it'll take me
Wonder where I'll be
Clung to this bed or out in the depths of the city
Wonder if life will fulfil me
Give me the things that I seek
Wanting to grow want to know where it may lead
I've got this future out waiting
I want to know what it holds
Busy with people or out here in the cold
Now I've got this plan of escaping
The pressure of us getting old
Take my hand and a stand what do we hold
And Oh
Play with the city lights
And Oh
Forget the money responsibility for the night
And Oh, Oh, Oh
I want to hold off on a care
I've just got to enjoy myself
And that's the life I want there
And that's the life I want there
Wonder if anyone will check in if I'm doing alright
I've got bills to pay
Who knows if I'll keep it up tight
Wonder if I will keep the pleasure of doing as I please
Too much restraint
Oh life I'm only eighteen
And Oh
Sit with the city skyline
And Oh
Forget the paperwork just for the night
And Oh, Oh, Oh
I want to hold off on a care
I've just got to enjoy myself

And that's the life I want there
And that's the life I want there

Overall Meaning

In the lyrics of Jessica's song "Wonder," the singer expresses a sense of curiosity and uncertainty about the future and where life may lead her. The lyrics convey a feeling of contemplation and a desire for fulfillment, as she wonders about the possibilities that lie ahead. The imagery of being "clung to this bed or out in the depths of the city" suggests a contrast between comfort and adventure, hinting at a longing for new experiences and growth.

The lyrics also touch on the theme of societal expectations and the pressure to conform as the singer reflects on the idea of escaping the constraints of getting older. There is a sense of rebellion and a yearning for freedom, symbolized by the desire to "play with the city lights" and "forget the money responsibility for the night." The repetition of the word "Oh" adds emphasis to the desire to break free from constraints and embrace a carefree attitude.

The singer grapples with the responsibilities of adulthood, such as paying bills and maintaining a sense of control, while also yearning for the freedom to do as she pleases. The juxtaposition of wanting to enjoy life and let go of cares, while also acknowledging the need for practicalities, creates a tension in the lyrics. The reference to being only eighteen underscores the internal conflict between youthful spontaneity and the realities of growing up.

Overall, "Wonder" captures the complex emotions and desires of a young person on the brink of adulthood, torn between the longing for excitement and the pressures of reality. The lyrics convey a sense of introspection, questioning societal norms and seeking a life that is authentic and fulfilling. Not just saying what most Americans are saying lol I’m Australian he could change some words an this is what a lot of Australians are feeling also 😊😊

Yes! MOST Americans feel this way! I keep hearing people say that Tom loves the country more than most Americans. Nope. He might be one of the loudest of us…but he doesn’t love it more than most. And a lot of Americans…came from a different country…but claim American! So he’s of Canadian origin…but he’s American now! β€οΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Tom with some more verbal jiu-jitsu! I am primarily a Metalhead, but I DO love me some Tom MacDonald! As a Canadian myself, I see what Tom sees. But he vocalizes it WAY better than I ever could. GREAT reaction. Keep it up! \m/

Same here but I live in the USA. Tom can murder people with lyrics as good as any metal lyricist. He's the metal rapper!! πŸ˜‚

Yes! Because we have a birds eye view of the U.S as we are right next door and neighbors! We go to every war with them. People also think" we don't have the same freedoms as American's when the ONLY thing we don't have is "The right to bear arms" And you know there is enough gun violence here but not as much as the U.S! We can do everything that Americans can do!πŸ™πŸ

Austin Rice

Sometimes it takes an outside perspective to see what is happening in this country and appreciate what others take for granted. Tom might be Canadian but he’s a true American patriot in my opinion. Love the reaction, Jess and you.

He should receive honorary citizenship. Period.

Saia Fee

Elijah Shaffer interviewed him… in that interview he said he appreciated America’s freedoms more because he came from Canada that doesn’t have the same freedoms
