At what I took
A leaf out of everybody's book
We see what you can't see
I'm caught in a trap of my own
Like everybody I know
This won't be played on your radio tonight
Do you all know of the Emperor's clothes
Walking down an empty road
We see what you can't see
That's not how I wanna be
Anyhow, every time the same dream
This won't be played on your radio tonight
This won't be played on your radio show
This won't be played on your radio tonight
Oh, no
In Jet's song Radio Song, the lyrics speak to a sense of frustration and disillusionment with the music industry and the media. The singer feels as though they are caught in a trap, much like everyone around them. They take a leaf out of everybody's book, meaning they are doing what everyone else is doing to try to make it in music. However, they see what others can't see, perhaps meaning that they have a deeper understanding or insight into the industry that others do not.
The chorus emphasizes this feeling of being shut out by the mainstream media. The singer is saying that this song won't be played on the radio tonight, or ever. They are speaking out against the predetermined playlists and limited options available to listeners. The metaphor of the Emperor's clothes walking down an empty road highlights the fact that the industry is often image-driven and empty, with little substance. The singer does not want to be a part of that and feels frustrated that their music is not getting the recognition it deserves.
Overall, the lyrics of Jet's Radio Song are expressing a sense of rebellion against the status quo of the music industry. The singer feels like they are in a trap, and they are tired of trying to fit in with what everyone else is doing. They are speaking out against the lack of diversity and the limited options available to listeners through mainstream radio.
