Was to certain poor shepherds
In fields as they lay
In fields where they
Lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night
That was so deep.
Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel
They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east, beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night
Noel, Noel
Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel
And by the light of that same star
Three wise men came
From the country far
To seek for a King was their intent
And to follow the star
Wherever it went.

Born is the King of Israel
The lyrics of Jim Brickman's "First Noel" tell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ as it was told in the Gospel of Luke. The first verse describes the first announcement of Jesus' birth to some shepherds, who were living out in the fields with their sheep. The angel's announcement was something of world-changing importance, but it was first delivered to these humble men.
The second verse recounts the appearance of the star in the east that led the wise men to Bethlehem, where Jesus had been born. The star shone both day and night, illuminating the way for the wise men to follow. The third verse describes the arrival of the wise men, who were evidently following the same star that the shepherds had seen. The wise men had traveled a great distance and went to great lengths to come and honor the newborn King Jesus.
Overall, the song is a deeply reverent and joyful celebration of the miracle of Jesus' birth. It reminds us that no matter how humble our beginnings may be, we are capable of amazing things, and that there is always hope for peace and redemption in the world.
