Born and raised in Delaware, Jimmie’s “dream” began early on as a boy in his church choir. He immediately fell in love with music and couldn’t get enough. He taught himself to play the guitar, drums, and piano while continuing to develop his chops as a singer. During his years of high school, Jimmie became extremely active in the musical theater program starring in presentations of “Footloose,” “Grease,” and “Peter Pan” and receiving rave reviews. This small taste of success was just enough to push the aspiring entertainer to a new level of excellence.
After high school and dedicated to his musical endeavors more than ever, Jimmie put together a demo showcasing his talents as a singer and songwriter He began taking trips to New York City, banging on doors, and passing around his music. To help offset some of these costs, he would enter talent contests with cash prizes and usually win. One such contest led him to the stage of the BET show, “106 and Park” and got the attention of a Nashville based producer.
Jimmie made his way to Tennessee and work began immediately. Within two days of his arrival, Jimmie and producer Kevin Wayne had written and recorded a song that solidified Jimmie’s sound and musical direction. Within a few months, major labels, managers, and agents were showing interest in the new artist, and then came a comet heading for the world.
“Comet,” Jimmie Allen’s first radio single impacting October ’09, is an exhilarating blend of Jimmie’s diverse musical influences from rock to pop to gospel and r n b. The choruses soar with huge distorted guitars while the verses pull you close to experience every intimate expression of Jimmie’s performance announcing his immense infatuation with a beautiful girl. As the drums pound, the bass pulses, and your head bounces. Handling A&R duties for the project is legendary EMIl executive Kim Stevens responsible for bands like Matchbox 20, Collective Soul, and Saving Abel. Mark Endert, mixing engineering for Madonna, Maroon 5, and The Fray, mixed the single for radio. It seems the stars are lining up for Mr. Allen. So watch the sky, there’s a comet on the way!

Why Things Happen
Jimmie Allen Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or how a tragedy like gravity holds you still while the world keeps spinnin'
It's hard not to question circumstances that leave you with nothin' to say
Is there some kind of message? Some kind of lesson? Damn, life's hard to explain
Oh God, tell me why things happen
Things happen like they do
Leaves you thinking 'bout how time leaves you
In the blink of a moment, gone 'fore you know it
Hits you right out of the blue
Wonderin' why things happen, things happen like they do, yeah
How a child that's just been named can then be pulled from the arms of a mother
Or a cross on the side of a two-lane road holds the memory of somebody's brother
You try not to question God and his judgement, but damn it, I don't understand
Somebody tell me why things happen
Things happen like they do
Leaves you thinking 'bout how time leaves you
It gets you all confused
In the blink of a moment, gone 'fore you know it
Hits you right out of the blue
You got me wonderin' why things happen, things happen like they do, oh
Your heart keeps on beatin'
Through all of those feelings
That you thought you'd never get through
There must be a reason
Our eyes are not seein'
Everything we want them to, uh
So tell me why things happen, yeah, yeah, yeah
So tell me why things happen
Things happen like they do (like they do)
Leaves you thinking 'bout how time leaves you (leaves you thinking)
It gets you all confused (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
In the blink of a moment, gone 'fore you know it
Hits you right out of the blue (hits you right out of the blue)
Wonderin' why things happen, things happen like they do (things happen, things happen)
Oh, yeah
Ooh, ooh, ooh, yeah
Yeah
In Jimmie Allen's song, "Why Things Happen," he contemplates the unpredictability and inexplicability of life's events. The opening verse suggests that life can end just as suddenly as a July sunset fades; like how the force of gravity can paralyze us while the world keeps moving on. When life's events hold no logical explanation or justification, it's natural to ask if there is some deeper meaning or lesson to be learned. The chorus serves as a plea to God or anyone else who may have answers, to shed light on the reasons for life's seemingly arbitrary randomness. The second verse introduces the struggles of losing a child or sibling, and the difficulty of reconciling the loss with faith in God's ultimate plan.
The song's contemplative tone is enhanced by a sparse, melancholic melody and Allen's emotive vocals. The chorus repeats the central refrain, with questions about the purpose of events that can leave us feeling confused and helpless. Allen acknowledges the complicated emotions we experience when faced with life's uncertainties, but ultimately suggests that faith and perseverance can help us to find meaning in even the darkest moments.
