Born on July 13, 1946, in Ponte Nova, Minas Gerais, João Bosco's profession was engineering when he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where his songs were also recorded by Elis Regina and were a success. He soon became admired as a versatile vocalist and a dynamic performer. Só que não me desespero
Rango alumínio
Ar, pedra, carvão e ferro
Eu lhe ofereço
Essas coisas que enumero
Quando fantasio
É quando sou mais sincero
Eis a Babilônia, amor
E eis Babel aqui
Algo da insônia
Do seu sonho antigo em mim
Eis aqui
O meu presente
De navios
E aviões
Holofotes
Noites afora
E fissuras
E invenções
Tudo isso
É pra queimar-se
Combustível
Pra se gastar
O carvão
O desespero
O alumínio
E o coração
Desde o fim da nossa história
Eu já segui navios
Aviões e holofotes
Pela noite afora
Me fissuraram tantos signos
E selvas, portos, places
Línguas, sexos, olhos
De amazonas que inventei
Dias sem carinho
Só que não me desespero
Rango alumínio
Ar, pedra, carvão e ferro
Eu lhe ofereço
Essas coisas que enumero
Quando fantasio
É quando sou mais sincero
Eis a Babilônia, amor
E eis Babel aqui
Algo da insônia
Do seu sonho antigo em mim
Eis aqui
O meu presente
De navios
E aviões
Holofotes
Noites afora
E fissuras
E invenções
Tudo isso
É pra queimar-se
Combustível
Pra se gastar
O carvão
O desespero
O alumínio
E o coração
The lyrics to João Bosco's song Holofotes feature the singer reflecting on their life and presenting their lover with a list of things they offer. Despite the lack of love and affection, the singer remains steadfast and doesn't despair. They list items that they can offer such as aluminum, air, stone, coal, and iron. The singer admits that when they fantasize, they are genuine, and it is their way of being sincere.
The singer then references Babilônia (Babylon), an ancient city known for its splendor and decadence. They also reference Babel, another ancient city infamous for being the site of the Tower of Babel. The singer clearly expresses that their love is just as grand and consuming as these ancient cities. They continue listing things they can offer, such as ships, airplanes, and spotlights. The singer admits that they have been fixated on many signs, such as jungles and ports, places and languages, sexes and eyes of Amazonian women that they invented in their dreams.
Overall, the song is a reflection on the singer's past and the various things they can offer their lover. The lyrics are a mix of fantasy and reality and convey a sense of grandeur and excess.
