His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

Trying to figure out just what to do
The last time that she gave her heart away
It came back broken in two
Like an old abandoned car
She parked it down off Lonely Avenue
And she forget about it till the day
She laid her eves on you
And her heart said: "Fire it up"
And her soul said: "Fire it up"
And her mind said: "Fire it up"
Let love live again
He's sitting in a subway station
Watching as the trains go flying by
He used to hate the black man till a black man
Reached out and saved his life
Trouv???? sur
He was pulled out of the darkness
Rescued and blinded by the light
Ain't it crazy how one simple act of kindness
Can open up our eyes
And her heart said: "Fire it up"
And her soul said: "Fire it up"
And her mind said: "Fire it up"
Let love live again
Here we are together you and me
Still trying to figure out the world
Searching for a reason to believe
What makes this big ball turn?
But if we hold on to each other
Give love, show love for all love's worth
Yeah, they might call us crazy
But, tell me who's it gonna hurt?
Who's it gonna hurt?
And her heart said: "Fire it up"
And her soul said: "Fire it up"
And her mind said: "Fire it up"
Let love live again
And her heart said: "Fire it up"
And her soul said: "Fire it up"
And her mind said: "Fire it up"
Let love live again
The lyrics to "Fire It Up" by Joe Cocker speak to the power of love and the need to reignite it when it fades. The song tells two stories of two people who have faced struggles in life but found their way back to hope through unexpected acts of kindness and finding love. The first verse is about a woman who has been hurt in love before and has given up on it. She parked her heart "down off Lonely Avenue" and forgot about it until she met someone who made her heart "fire up" with love again. The chorus repeats the phrase "let love live again" as a call to not give up on love and to keep it alive.
The second verse tells the story of a man who used to hate black people until he was saved by a black man. His heart was also reignited by kindness and love. The song then shifts to a more general message of holding on to each other and giving love to all we encounter. The line "tell me who's it gonna hurt?" challenges the idea that love is a weakness by asking who could be hurt by showing love to others. The chorus repeats, reinforcing the message to let love live again.
Overall, "Fire It Up" is a song about hope and the power of love to overcome adversity. It encourages listeners to not give up on love, even when it has been broken, and to keep the flame of love burning.
