His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

You Love Me Back
Joe Cocker Lyrics

I thought I'd see you smile
When I walked in the door
Thought those arms of yours would be open wide
The way they were before
Why do you look at me
Like I'm some stranger now
Why do you pull away
Don't you love me anymore
Have your learned to live your life without me
Don't you love me, anymore
When did the fire go out
Where did the feeling go
Did it slip away when I wasn't there
Baby now I've come home
I thought you'd want me babe
I was so sure you'd ask me to to stay
I thought you'd need this too
Guess it didn't work out that way
Don't you love me anymore
Have you learned to live your life without me
Don't you love me anymore
Darling
When did the fire go out
Where did the feeling go
Why do you pull away
When you used to hold me so close baby
Don't you love me anymore
Have your learned to live your life without me
Don't you love me anymore
Don't you love me anymore
Have your learned to live your life without me
The song Don't You Love Me Anymore by Joe Cocker is a poignant lamentation of a man who returns home hoping to rekindle the love that he shared with his partner before he left. However, upon his return, he realizes that things have changed and that he is no longer the same person who left. He expected to see his partner smiling and with open arms waiting for him, but instead, he is greeted with a sense of aloofness that he cannot understand.
The lyrics express his confusion and hurt as he tries to understand why his partner looks at him like a stranger and pulls away from him, whereas they used to hold each other tightly. He questions if the love that they once shared has dissipated and asks when the fire went out and where the feeling went. The song's emotion is heightened by the repetition of the line 'Don't you love me anymore,' which drives home the theme of rejection.
The song conveys a sense of longing and heartbreak, which is heightened by Joe Cocker's soulful voice, lending a raw and poignant edge to the lyrics.

We're gasoline and fire
A blessing and a curse
If you wrote us down on paper
You'd swear we'd never work
You'd swear we'd never work
You're nothing like I dreamed
Oh and everything I need
In a crazy world
Coming all apart
You're my cover you're my lover you're my purple heart
When there's no one left telling me the truth
And I feel there's nothing real there I can hold on to
When I'm way off track
When I hurt like that
You love me back
Like a magical oasis
I could drink until I drowned
You're the answer to a question when no answers can be found
You turn it all around
You take away my shame
And love me through the pain
In a crazy world
Coming all apart
You're my cover you're my lover you're my purple heart
When there's no one left telling me the truth
And I feel there's nothing real there I can hold on to
When I'm way off track
When I hurt like that
You love me back
You love me back
You make it all make sense
You take this man
When I don't think I can
And make me all right again
In a crazy world
Coming all apart
You're my cover you're my lover you're my purple heart
When there's no one left telling me the truth
And I feel there's nothing real there I can hold on to
When I'm way off track
When I hurt like that
You love me back
