His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

No grounds to feel jealous
But I'm just a guy
Who's got to tell it like it is
I must be sure of your love
On that I exist
Is there someone
Just tell me now
Darling I will be gone
But if he is stealing from me
Then that would be wrong
I stand my ground
Against any man
Who would try to take you from my arms
If you know me at all
You know I don't let go
As long as you want me
That's all I need to know
I've never been
What they call the fighting kind
But I'm a man
Who'll defend what is mine
I've built my world around you
If you know me at all
You know I don't let go
As long as you want me
That's all I need to know
I don't back down
When I've got my feet on the ground
I'm a peace loving man
But I'll take the blows
As long as you want me
That's all I need to know [Repeat x 3]
In the opening lines, Joe Cocker and Eros Ramazzotti address the insecurity that often arises in relationships. While the singer admits that he may not have any grounds to feel jealous, he still insists on voicing his concerns. He needs to be sure that his love is reciprocated, that he’s not being taken for granted. His next lines, however, reveal that this is not just a matter of insecurity, but a question of personal stakes. He's not ready to let go so quickly, unless he’s certain that there's no future in this relationship - hence the plea to know if there’s someone else in the picture.
From hereon, the song takes a staunchly protective stance. The singer declares his readiness to fight, to stand guard over his love. He may not be a ‘fighting man’, but he takes pride in defending what's his. He lets his lover know that his world revolves around her, and that he will protect her at any cost. But through all of this, he remains insistent that the love is mutual; he’s not going to fight for someone who doesn't want him around.
In summary, Joe Cocker and Eros Ramazzotti's Tha's All I Need to Know Difendero is a song that explores the ups and downs of relationships. While it is rooted in the insecurity and jealousy that often arise, it also highlights the importance of trust and protection. It's about two people resolving to stay together, despite whatever hiccups lie ahead.
