Too Marvellous For Words
Joe Loss & His Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're just too marvelous, too marvelous for words
Like glorious, glamorous and that old standby amorous
It's all too wonderful, I'll never find the words
That say enough, tell enough, I mean they just aren't swell enough

You're much too much and just too very, very
To ever be in Webster's Dictionary
And so I'm borrowing a love song from the birds
To tell you that you're marvelous, too marvelous for words

You're much, you're too much and just too very, very
To ever be, to ever be in Webster's Dictionary
And so I'm borrowing a love song from the birds

To tell you that you're marvelous, tell you that you're marvelous
Tell you that you're marvelous, too marvelous for words

Overall Meaning

The song "Too Marvelous For Words" by Joe Loss & His Band is a love song that expresses the indescribable beauty and enchantment of the person being sung about. The lyrics convey that the person is not only marvelous but goes beyond the limits of words to define their incredible qualities. The use of adjectives like "glorious, glamorous, and amorous" emphasizes the magnificence and charm that the person possesses.

The singer admits that no words can truly capture the essence of this individual. They express their struggle in finding adequate words to express their feelings. Even though they try to find enough words that are "swell enough" to describe the person, they realize that language falls short in capturing the true brilliance of their subject.

To convey this sentiment, the lyrics play with the idea of being "too much" and "too very" for words. The singer humorously suggests that the person is so exceptional that they exceed the boundaries of what can be contained in a dictionary, implying that their qualities are beyond definition. In the end, the singer turns to nature to express their admiration, borrowing a love song from the birds as a way to convey that the person is truly marvelous and incomprehensible in words alone.

I think this is a great tune which was used as what were known as fill tunes out to the likes of news and features on NZBC radio stations in New Zealand. I am wondering if the person who put the above tune into u/tube could also place the other side of this disc on too also a tune called Really Madison as I would greatly appreciate it thankyou.
