In addition to his work with 3, Joey Eppard has worked with many other musicians and bands, including Parliament-Funkadelic and Bad Brains. He serves as a guitarist and vocalist for the psychedelic/funk band DRUGS: The Mis-Americans. During his career, he has performed throughout the United States and Europe, both in bands, and as a solo artist.
He also released a solo album in late 2002, called "Been to the Future," which features studio recordings of some of his solo work.
Most notable about Joey is his unique guitar technique that is best described as a combination of spanish flamenco style and slap bass techniques. Eppard's vocals have been described as 'siren-like', while his 'finger-pricked rhythms' have gained praise. He has stated that Led Zeppelin had a profound influence in shaping his musical talents. He also has listed such artists as King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and The Mahavishnu Orchestra as other influences.
He himself plays largely on Ovation roundbacks, presumably because of the similarity in the neck and action to an electric.
Joey Eppard is also the brother of Josh Eppard, who currently drums for Coheed and Cambria, and is the former drummer of 3, as well as current MC for his hip-hop side-project Weerd Science.
Balloon
Joey Eppard Lyrics

Bye my baby
Now there's no
One can save me
You just keep
On ascending
While I sleep
Through the ending
Through the ending
Through the ending
Through the ending
There's a balloon
That I let go of
I'll see you soon
I miss you so long
I knew you'd write
But not this far
I searched the skies
For where are
For where are
For where are
For where are
For where are
Gonna play with fire then expect to lose some games
Most of all I feel this fall will land me in the flames
And if it does I wonder it it was all for nothing then
But if it was all for nothing then how could I try again
Again
A new year cries
But not this far
I search your eyes
I fall where you are
Did I do cheat
Find the answer
Love is only heat
Where your hands were
The lyrics to Joey Eppard's song Balloon are poignant and melancholic, speaking to the sense of loss and longing that comes with separation from someone we care about deeply. The song is structured around the central metaphor of a balloon, representing the singer's feelings for their loved one. The opening lines of the song set the tone of sadness and hopelessness, as the singer realizes that their love is gone and they are powerless to do anything about it. The repeated refrain of "through the ending" emphasizes the finality of the situation, and the inability of the singer to change what has happened.
The second verse brings in the central image of the balloon, as the singer speaks directly to the one they have lost. They know they will see them again, but the feeling of missing them is overwhelming. The image of a balloon represents the fragility and transience of love, as well as the sense of hope and possibility that comes with it. The chorus repeats several times, asking where the loved one has gone and emphasizing the pain of separation.
The final verse of the song is more introspective, as the singer grapples with the idea of taking risks in love. They know that playing with fire can lead to pain and loss, but they also acknowledge that love is worth the risk. The final lines of the song suggest that even if they do get burned, the experience will be worth it for the joy and passion that love can bring.
