Like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again
Come, let me love you
Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
Come, let me love you
Come love me again
Let me give my life to you
Come, let me love you
Come love me again
You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again
The song "Annie's Song" is a beautiful love song written and performed by John Denver and later interpreted by Placido Domingo. The lyrics depict a deep and passionate love, where the songwriter expresses how the presence of their loved one influences all of their senses. The lyrics talk about how the lover fills up the songwriter's senses, like a night in a forest, the mountains in springtime, the rain, the desert storm, and the ocean. All such natural elements possess a power and beauty that is evocative and intimately connected to human experiences. By comparing their lover to these natural elements, John Denver is seeking to highlight the purity and intensity of the emotions he is feeling.
The chorus talks about the intensity of his love and how much he desires to be with his lover. He wants to drown in her laughter and die in her arms, signaling unconditional love. The verse "Come let me love you/ Let me give my life to you/ Let me lay down beside you/ Let me always be with you" express extreme devotion and a willingness to do anything for his lover. Through the lyrics, the songwriter seems to be encouraging his lover to embrace him, love him and stay with him.
