You Don't Owe Me
John Fogerty Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, I don't care if the sun don't shine
I don't care if the bells don't chime
Just as long as you love me
And I don't care if the tops don't spin
I don't care if the gins won't gin
Just as long as you love me

So darling, let it rain, let it snow
Let the cold north wind blow
Just as long as you love me
North or south, east or west
You know I will stand the test
Just as long as you love me

Well, I don't care if the birds don't sing
I don't care if the bells don't ring
Just as long as you love me
I don't care if the world don't turn
I don't care if the fire don't burn
Just as long as you love me

So darling, let it rain, let it snow
Let the cold north wind blow
Just as long as you love me
North or south, east or west
You know I will stand the test
Just as long as you love me

Oh darling, just as long as you love me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to John Fogerty's song "I Found A Love" express a deep and unwavering devotion to someone. The singer is declaring that they don't care about external circumstances or material possessions, as long as the person they love reciprocates that love. The repetition of the phrase "Just as long as you love me" emphasizes the importance of this love above all else.

The first verse sets the tone by stating that the singer doesn't care if the sun doesn't shine or the bells don't chime, as long as they are loved. This reflects a sense of contentment and prioritizing emotional connection over external factors. The second verse continues this sentiment, expressing that the singer doesn't care if things don't function as they should, as long as there is love.

The chorus further emphasizes this devotion by stating that the singer doesn't mind rain, snow, or a cold north wind, as long as they are loved. They are willing to endure any weather conditions or challenges that come their way as long as they have the love of their partner. The bridge reinforces this commitment, declaring that the singer will stand the test in any direction (north, south, east, or west) because their love is unwavering.

Overall, "I Found A Love" is a song that celebrates love as the ultimate source of happiness and fulfillment, regardless of any external circumstances or challenges that may arise.

Saludos

Isso é que é country music

@reneenfeliciavis9300

For me, the records he made as a one man band are the best of his solo years. Many people, including John Fogerty himself, disagree with that.
