He has also contributed to Public Radio International’s This American Life, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s Wiretap and, of late, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Hodgman’s first book, The Areas of My Expertise, was published in 2005. In addition to his work in literature, he is the founder of and master of ceremonies for The Little Gray Books Lectures in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Hodgman also provided his own narration to the audiobook version of The Areas of My Expertise.

He has recently had much exposure personifying a PC in Apple's "Get a Mac" advertising campaign.

I love this compilation! Perhaps next time you can consider including one of Jon's serious rants, like the one about legitimate soul-crushing worry being different from the paralyzing repetition of "we're f**cked". That episode took place after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, and Jon's angry call to action was exactly what I needed to hear.

Modern gaming requires way, way too much investment, both mental and monetarily. I did play some FPS and Adventure type games, but I always preferred RPGs and big clunky resource production/strategy games (because I am clumsy and have bad reflexes when wasting time on useless shit, so I suck at games requiring those. I regularly catch things I drop, either with my hands or feet, so it's hardly universal). I mostly stopped playing new games after I stopped buying Gamecube games, which was a long time ago. The closest thing to new games I've played in ages is probably the Enhanced Editions of Baldur's Gate (and other Infinity Engine games), which was pretty amazing to come back to (and not have it be anywhere near as clunky/buggy, it was like Baldur's Gate: Mostly Fully Realized, but there was a limitation on how much they could update the game due to contract limitations, but the work they did was pretty good overall). I like the idea of games, and am quite invested in Magic the Gathering, though I found Arena awkward and unfulfilling to 'pay to play' because I hate ongoing investments in games as a principle, I think you can build some decks without spending any money, but your decks will mostly suck compared to the optimized ones that spent possibly thousands. It's a different equation when I'm getting actual cardboard, which might still have resale in the future. Once in awhile I crave an old game I used to play, but it's not even once every 6 months at this point, I was so sure I'd get back into gaming during the pandemic, but it was just Magic cards, only not playing, so I'm way better at building decks and have a rough idea how to play my own decks, but I have these staggering blind spots because of a lack of experience.

The funniest thing about conservatives complaining about 'the crisis in manliness' or whatever BS is that it's always garbage people like hawly and carlson who are obviously nothing but nerds posing, they aren't even convincing, it's like taking bodybuilding advice from a skinny fat person, their are literally no worse sources of information on that topic.

As soon as someone asks me my Zodiac sign I abandon all hope of ever fully respecting that person again. I'm sorry, it may be okay to be intentionally daft and shallow here and there, but given how lazy and unfounded the whole thing is...if you're convinced of THAT, we're not gonna vibe. Not to make an overly serious thing out of a facetious sketch, but is there anybody on this stage who meaningfully knows anything about astrology? You're talking about something that people have dedicated their entire lives to, that is a part of some people's religious belief systems in that witches/wiccans/pagans depend on astrology for a lot of things. It doesn't take an accomplished mind to condemn and insult something about which you know nothing.

And don't mention it in the same breath as the typical pompous drumbeat of "I believe in science" that has become the flag of arrogance that we wave on the left. (I'm ON the left, there's a reason I said "we"). One has nothing to do with the other. Be more holistic in the way that you think.

Also, I couldn't care less who cares or doesn't care about astrology. It's your right to care or not care about what you care or don't care about. But it is still ignorant to be talking like you know the facts about any of this when you "don't care" what your "big three" are. Just don't even talk about this subject if you're not going to be informed. Or any other subject, if you're not going to bother being informed. All of y'all.
