Besides these two songs, five more of Montgomery's singles have reached the top of the country charts: "I Love the Way You Love Me", "Be My Baby Tonight", "If You've Got Love", "I Can Love You Like That", and "The Little Girl", while thirteen more have reached Top Ten. Montgomery's recordings of "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That" were both released concurrently with R&B versions by the group All-4-One. Montgomery has also released eleven studio albums, counting a Christmas album.
John Michael joined the family band (which also included his brother, Eddie Montgomery, who would later join Troy Gentry in the duo Montgomery Gentry) as guitarist before taking the lead singing role when his parents divorced. Afterwards, he made a frugal living on the local honky-tonk scene as a solo artist playing what he referred to as "working man's country." Eventually, Atlantic Records signed him.

About half past 8
Just time for a movie
You can't stay out late
I take you home
A little kiss at the door
Lately I'm thinkin'
I want a little more
I'm a hard working man
And after church on Sunday
I'm gonna ask for your hand
If he don't like it
Well that's just tough
I've got to have your full time love
Your undivided lovin'
Is what I need
Twenty four hours a day
Seven days a week
This part time romance
It just ain't enough
I've got to have your full time love
Sunday afternoon
Finally rolls around
I get in my old truck
And I drive downtown
Your daddy's waitin'
He says I got bad news
I've got to tell you son
She's too good for you
What he don't know
Is when the sun goes down
We're gonna slip out that window
And we'll leave this town
Drive to Memphis
Tie this thing up
I've got to have your full time love
Your undivided lovin'
Is what I need
Twenty four hours a day
Seven days a week
This part time romance
It just ain't enough
I've got to have your full time love
This part time romance
Lord it just ain't enough
I've got to have your full time love
The song "Full-Time Love" is a classic country song by John Michael Montgomery about a man who wants more than just a part-time romance. He picks up his love interest on a Friday night, takes her to a movie, and drops her off with a kiss at the door. He knows he wants more than just a casual relationship and thinks about asking for her hand in marriage after church on Sunday. However, he meets with resistance from her father who believes the man is not good enough for his daughter.
The singer believes he needs her full-time love, not just a part-time romance. He is willing to drive to Memphis to start a new life with her. The man believes that her undivided love is what he needs, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. He cannot tolerate anything less from her.
John Michael Montgomery’s "Full-Time Love" is a beautifully crafted song about the desire for true love over a fleeting romance. The lyrics paint a picture of a man who knows what he wants and is determined to get it, despite the obstacles he might face. The song speaks to the fundamental human need for companionship and commitment.
