Besides these two songs, five more of Montgomery's singles have reached the top of the country charts: "I Love the Way You Love Me", "Be My Baby Tonight", "If You've Got Love", "I Can Love You Like That", and "The Little Girl", while thirteen more have reached Top Ten. Montgomery's recordings of "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That" were both released concurrently with R&B versions by the group All-4-One. Montgomery has also released eleven studio albums, counting a Christmas album.
John Michael joined the family band (which also included his brother, Eddie Montgomery, who would later join Troy Gentry in the duo Montgomery Gentry) as guitarist before taking the lead singing role when his parents divorced. Afterwards, he made a frugal living on the local honky-tonk scene as a solo artist playing what he referred to as "working man's country." Eventually, Atlantic Records signed him.

To lose your faith in love
Give me the chase I'll find the pieces
To a heart that's given up
You say there's nothing I can do
But no one's ever too far gone
It's a heartache talking when
You say you'll never love again
I can prove you wrong
I know I can make you see
That you're right where you belong
When you're right here with me
If I could wrap these arms around you
You won't even know he's gone
But if you're still afraid
Love always ends that way
I can prove you wrong
I can show you what I'm saying
Is so much more than empty words
And if you want me here I'm staying
But I'll walk away if you prefer
A broken heart takes time to heal
And right now yours is not that strong
You say there's no one left for you
But if you want me to
I can prove you wrong
I can prove you wrong
I know I can make you see
That you're right where you belong
When you're right here with me
If I could wrap these arms around you
You won't even know he's gone
But if you're still afraid
Love always ends that way
I can prove you wrong
But if you're still afraid
Love always ends that way
I can prove you wrong
In John Michael Montgomery's song "I Can Prove You Wrong," he sings about a person who has given up on love due to heartbreak caused by their previous relationship. The singer offers to help this person regain their faith in love and give them a chance to find happiness once again. He assures them that he can find the pieces of their broken heart and make them whole again. Although they may think they are too far gone, the singer is convinced he can prove them wrong.
He promises to show this person that what he is saying is more than just empty words. He is willing to stay by their side and support them during their healing process. The singer acknowledges that a broken heart takes time to heal, but he is confident that he can make a difference. Although the person may still be afraid of getting hurt again, the singer encourages them to take a chance on love and let him prove them wrong. He believes that they are right where they belong when they are with him.
This song is a beautiful reminder that even after experiencing heartbreak, it is still possible to find love again. The singer's words are full of hope and encouragement, urging us not to give up on love, no matter how difficult our past experiences have been.
