Besides these two songs, five more of Montgomery's singles have reached the top of the country charts: "I Love the Way You Love Me", "Be My Baby Tonight", "If You've Got Love", "I Can Love You Like That", and "The Little Girl", while thirteen more have reached Top Ten. Montgomery's recordings of "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That" were both released concurrently with R&B versions by the group All-4-One. Montgomery has also released eleven studio albums, counting a Christmas album.
John Michael joined the family band (which also included his brother, Eddie Montgomery, who would later join Troy Gentry in the duo Montgomery Gentry) as guitarist before taking the lead singing role when his parents divorced. Afterwards, he made a frugal living on the local honky-tonk scene as a solo artist playing what he referred to as "working man's country." Eventually, Atlantic Records signed him.
The Christmas Song
John Michael Montgomery Lyrics

Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.
Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And every mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.
And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you!
The Christmas Song by John Michael Montgomery perfectly summarizes the various traits associated with the holiday season, from the delicious roasted chestnuts that we tend to eat during winters to the frosty weather, joyous carols, and Eskimo clothing that we all find cute. The song essentially focuses on the celebratory atmosphere that we experience at Christmas. Additionally, it highlights how different age groups have their own ways to celebrate this holiday season. For children and the young-at-heart, they look forward to the arrival of Santa Claus and the presents that he brings. On the other hand, older generations take this opportunity to show gratitude towards their loved ones and the prospective joy that this day brings.
Furthermore, during this season, people tend to overlook the negative aspects of their lives and focus on the more positive things. It is a time to bring people together, and the lyrics of the song encapsulate the broader idea of love and happiness that surround this season. The musical piece helps people to delve deeper into their emotions and feelings during Christmastime. Therefore, the song perfectly captures the spirit of the holiday season while making it easier for people to forget about their worries temporarily and embrace the holiday spirit.
