Waiting for the sun

and I'm through dreaming
all these colors I've been flying
have lost the will to keep me high
and I'm not amused...
So I said hey you're no a star
so are you through screaming
hiding in the dark
and I can't see you...
Well shine the light
and you can come on in
can't you see I'm on a mission
you can stay if you are wishin
but I'm waiting...
see my daddy hit the doorway
when I was just a kid
said he'd gone to find the sunshine
and bring it back for me
and I'm waiting
waiting for the sun to shine
Do you see my scars
it's dark and they're glowing
all these tiny little punctures
are a doorway to the sun
a doorway to the sun
think I'll have another one
I know he's in here
I can feel him lookin for me
I hear him laughin like he did
like he did when I was young
daddy's bringin me the sun
and I'm waiting
waiting for the sun to shine
The song "Waiting for the sun" by John Wesley is a melancholic yet hopeful track about waiting for the sunshine in life. The opening verse, "Well, here we are boy and I'm through dreaming, all these colors I've been flying have lost the will to keep me high and I'm not amused," sets the tone of the song as someone who has grown tired of dreaming and searching for fulfillment, but is still hopeful. The chorus, "See my daddy hit the doorway when I was just a kid, said he'd gone to find the sunshine and bring it back for me, and I'm waiting, waiting for the sun to shine," tells the story of the singer waiting for his father to return with the sunshine, but also waiting for something in life to change or brighten up.
The second verse, "Do you see my scars, it's dark and they're glowing, all these tiny little punctures are a doorway to the sun, a doorway to the sun, think I'll have another one," refers to addiction or self-harm as a means of escape or a way to feel something in the darkness of waiting. The song ends on a hopeful note with the lines, "I know he's in here, I can feel him lookin for me, I hear him laughin like he did, like he did when I was young, daddy's bringin me the sun and I'm waiting, waiting for the sun to shine." The singer still has hope that the sunshine, whether literal or metaphorical, will come and bring light to their life.
