I've been looking your way
I get the feeling I could use anything, lose everything
Just to make you stay
Never knowin' I could feel
You come and break my seal
Don't ya know that I could lose everything, use anything
Got you all in my mind
Got you under my skin
Don't ya know that I would use everything, prove anything
Just to let you in
Now I'm startin' to sweat
I'm shakin' inside
I'm willing to break anything, take anything
Just to watch you ride
You are my wrench
You've got my pride
You got all the tools to break me loose inside
You are my wrench
You got my soul
You got all the tools to make me lose control
Wrench...
I've never fallen so hard
I've never sunk so low
Never knew this could break a part of me, be the start of me
Come and make it so
We got nothing to lose
I got nothing to hide
Got a feelin' you're just the woman to dig a tunnel through
Open me inside
You are my wrench
You've got my pride
You got all the tools to break me loose inside
You are my wrench
You got my soul
You got all the tools to make me lose control
Wrench...
You are my wrench
You've got my pride
You got all the tools to break me loose inside
You are my wrench
You got my soul
You got all the tools to make me lose control
You are my wrench
You've got my pride
You got all the tools to break me loose inside
You are my wrench
You got my soul
You got all the tools to make me lose control
Wrench...
In John Wesley's song "Wrench", the singer confesses his feelings for someone whom he has been admiring from afar. He conveys his desire to do anything and everything to keep this person close to him, even if it means losing everything else. This desire is echoed in the repeated refrain, "You are my wrench, you've got my pride, you got all the tools to break me loose inside." He is willing to let this person "break [his] seal" and "make [him] real", suggesting that he feels incomplete without her presence in his life.
The singer also acknowledges the potential risks involved in falling for someone so deeply, stating that he has "never sunk so low" and that this person could potentially "break a part" of him. Nevertheless, he remains committed to the idea of taking a risk and opening himself up to this person. The repetition of the refrain underscores his sense of vulnerability, as he imagines this person as a tool that is capable of dismantling his defenses and rendering him emotionally exposed.
Overall, "Wrench" explores themes of desire, vulnerability, and risk-taking in relationships. The singer is willing to do almost anything to keep this person in his life, but he acknowledges that this comes with the potential for heartache and pain. Through his lyrics, John Wesley portrays the complexity of romantic attraction and the ways in which it can stir up conflicting emotions within us.
