I discovered Johnny Clegg and Savuka in 2019, 6 months before Johnny died.
My dad assisted to an outdoor concert in the 80's or 90's at only a few miles from where we live. Honestly, I just want to go back in time and go to this concert...
I really love this music and its message.

Somewhere around 2005 Johnny Klegg was at the House of Blues in New Orleans. The concert was incredible. Highest energy concert I've ever attended. He was very gracious, mingling with the crowd and talking to all of us like we were old friends. Both he and the woman I went with, who was an exchange student in SA and knew of him there, are gone now. Two losses to the world.

I absolutely agree. I only saw Johnny live three times, the first time with Juluka at the seminal ‘Concert in the Park’ in 1985 and twice as a ‘solo’ artist with his band in 2001 and 2016 respectively. Somehow I never saw him live with Savuka, though they did perform and tour in SA.

It’s a shame that African countries are like this. They have the potential to become well off but they choose corruption instead. Here in South Africa, since the apartheid ended, the country has become very corrupt. I know there was lots of corruption under Afrikaner rule compared to European countries but now it’s worse. The police do nothing, poverty is rising, water treatment is bad etc. Unfortunately with the South African government, they are more interested in headhunting the white people instead of solving the problems that face South Africa. In South Africa, society is so divided that it is hard to move forward. It’s a real shame Africa is like this.
