In 1957 while still in high school, Tillotson was making records and performing on stage; as a student at the University of Florida, he had his own musical variety show on regional television. Following graduation in 1959 with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and Communications, he signed with Cadence Records and moved to New York City to pursue his music career. In 1960, he recorded his first hit, a composition entitled "Poetry in Motion" (written by Anthony/Kaufman), that went to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. and #1 on the UK Singles Chart.
A "crossover" artist, several of Tillotson's songs were successful on both the country music charts and pop charts. He earned a Grammy Award nomination for another of his own compositions, "It Keeps Right On a-Hurtin," and also for the song "Heartaches by the Number," nominated for Best Vocal Performance of 1965. He also appeared in the 1963 film "Just for Fun" and sang the theme song for the 1965 Sally Field television comedy "Gidget".
In a career spanning more than 40 years, Tillotson has recorded 26 singles that made it onto Billboard's charts, and performed at venues across the United States and other places around the globe.
He was featured in the 1966 camp comedy The Fat Spy starring Jayne Mansfield, Jack E. Leonard, Phyllis Diller, Brian Donlevy and Jordan Christopher & the Wild Ones. This film was featured in the 2004 documentary The 50 Worst Movies Ever Made (#46).
So Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On

Don't you know that I still care for you?
Send me the pillow that you dream on
So darling I can dream on it too
Each night while I'm sleeping oh so lonely
I'll share your love in dreams that once were true
Send me the pillow that you dream on
Send me the pillow that you dream on
Maybe time will let our dreams come true
Send me the pillow that you dream on
So darling I can dream on it too
I've waited so long for you to write me
But just a memory's all that's left of you
Send me the pillow that you dream on
So darling I can dream on it too
The lyrics of Johnny Tillotson's song "Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On" convey a sense of longing for a lost love. The singer is asking his former lover to send him the pillow she dreams on, so he can feel connected to her once again. The opening lines set the tone for the song, as the singer tells his former partner that he still cares for her. He's hoping that by receiving the pillow, he can experience some of the love and happiness that they once shared.
As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the relationship has ended and the singer is struggling to cope with the reality of the situation. He describes himself as "sleeping oh so lonely" and yearning for a way to reconnect with his former lover. The imagery of the dream pillow becomes a symbol for the love and intimacy that the singer has lost. By receiving the pillow, he hopes to bridge the gap between them and possibly rekindle their love.
Overall, the lyrics of "Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On" are heartfelt and emotional, conveying a sense of longing and nostalgia. The words are simple but effective, capturing the pain of lost love and the desire for connection.
