Black Keys
Jonas Brothers Lyrics

Colors fade to gray
Every precious moment's now a waste
She hits the gas, hoping it would pass
The red lights starts to flash, it's time to wait
And black keys never looked so beautiful
And a perfect rainbow never seemed so dull
And the black keys
Showing me a world I never knew, no
World I never knew
She hates the sun 'cause it proves she's not alone
And the world doesn't revolve around her soul, no
She loves the sky 'cause it validates her pride
Never lets her know when she is wrong
And black keys never looked so beautiful
And a perfect rainbow never seemed so dull
And the lights out never had this bright a glow
And the black keys
Showing me a world I never knew, no
Yeah, and the walls are closing in
Don't let 'em get inside of your head
Don't let 'em get inside of your head
Don't let 'em get inside of your head
Don't let them inside
'Cause the black keys never looked so beautiful
And a perfect rainbow never seemed so dull, oh-oh
And the lights out never had this bright a glow
And the black keys
Showing me a world I never knew
Don't let 'em get (don't let 'em get)
Inside of your head (no)
Don't let 'em get inside of your head
Don't let 'em get (don't let 'em get)
Inside of your head
Don't let 'em get (no)
Inside of your head
Sometimes, you'll find it's better black and white
The Jonas Brothers' song Black Keys is a poignant message about the importance of taking control of one's own life even in the darkest of times. The lyrics describe a girl who is feeling lost and disconnected from the world around her. She is relying on external objects and forces to make her feel better, such as driving away and hoping her problems will disappear. However, the reality remains that she is simply running away from her problems and not confronting them head-on. The black keys in the lyrics symbolize a world that she never knew existed, a world where she has control over her own thoughts and feelings. The black keys offer her an insight into herself and her place in the world.
The lyrics of the song explore the importance of self-awareness and self-confidence. The lines "She hates the sun 'cause it proves she's not alone" and "She loves the sky 'cause it validates her pride" suggest that the girl is seeking validation outside of herself. She needs the world around her to reflect back to her her own sense of self-worth. However, the message of the song is that true self-worth comes from within. The black keys that "never looked so beautiful" offer her a new perspective, one where she is the captain of her own ship. The final lines "Sometimes a fight / Is better / Black and white" suggest that the girl has now realized that it's better to confront her problems than to run away from them. Being able to see the world in black and white can help one better address problems.
