All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly sleep
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night! Holy night!
Glories streaming from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Hallelujah
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born
Christ, the Savior is born
"Silent Night" is a timeless Christmas carol that has been sung for generations. This song was originally composed in Austria by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1818, and it has since been translated into over 140 languages. The version sung by Jonathan Jackson is a classic rendition that captures the essence of the original composition.
The song starts with "Silent night! Holy night!" This line sets the tone for the song and encapsulates the idea of the peaceful night that Jesus was born. The next line, "All is calm, all is bright," reinforces this idea, and it is juxtaposed with the image of the Virgin Mary and her baby Jesus, which creates a sense of warmth and tenderness. The next couple of lines describe how the infant is sleeping peacefully and emphasizes the idea that Jesus was born into a world of peace.
The second verse shifts the focus to the shepherds who were visited by angels, causing them to quake in fear. This verse describes the appearance of heavenly glories and the singing of hallelujah by the heavenly hosts. The final lines of the song reiterate the idea that Jesus, the savior, has been born. These lines offer a message of hope and salvation.
