Woke up cold one Tuesday
It was a cold Tuesday morning when the singer woke up.

I'm looking tired, and feeling quite sick
The singer was feeling unwell and it was showing in his appearance.

I feel like there was something missing
The singer had a feeling of emptiness or lack in his life.

In my day-to-day life
This feeling of something missing was related to his everyday routine.

So I quickly opened the washer
To solve this, the singer turned to routine tasks, like doing laundry.

Pulled out some jeans, and a t-shirt that seemed clean
He picked out clothes that he felt were presentable, though nothing special or new.

Topped it off with a pair of old shoes
He wore a pair of shoes that he had worn many times before.

That were ripped around the seams
The shoes were worn, damaged and in need of replacement.

And I thought these shoes just don't suit me
The singer reflected on how his old shoes didn't really reflect who he was or how he wanted to present himself.

Hey, I put some new shoes on
Suddenly, the singer replaced his old shoes with new ones.

And suddenly everything's right
The new shoes seemingly change his outlook on life or had an overall positive effect.

And everybody's smiling, it's so might
As a result, people around him are also happier and more positive.

And I'm short on money for a long, long time
Despite lacking funds, he made the investment in new shoes.

Slowly swollen in my sweet sunshine
He was feeling fulfilled and optimistic, metaphorically 'swollen' with happiness.

And I'm running late, and I don't need an excuse
The singer is not worried about being late because he's feeling confident and content in his new shoes.

Wearing my brand, new shoes
He is wearing his new shoes and feeling great about it.

Woke up late on Thursday
Later in the week, the singer had another tough morning waking up.

I'm seeing stars as I'm rubbing my eyes
He was so tired that he was seeing stars.

And I felt like there was two things missing
Again, he had a feeling of emptiness, this time even more pronounced.

As I focused on the time
This feeling was related to a concern about time.

And I made my way through the kitchen
As he walked through his home, he searched for something to fill the void he was feeling.

But had to stop from the shock of what I found
However, he was surprised to find something he didn't expect.

A room full of all of my friends
His friends had organized a gathering to cheer him up.

All dancing 'round, and 'round
They were all joyfully dancing together.

And I thought, "Hello, new shoes, bye bye, blues"
The singer realized that his new shoes had been the key to his newfound happiness and he is grateful for that.

Take me walking through these streets
In the second half of the song, the singer is enjoying his new outlook and is ready to take on the world.

Where bright lights, and angels meet
He envisions a world that is lit up and magical.

Stone to stone, they take me on
The singer is walking confidently, one step at a time.

I'm walking to the break of dawn
He is determined and hopeful, walking into the future with a positive outlook.
