Change Girl
Joni Fuller Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I just don?t have the time
Lost, over the bridge, can you make it home?
What happened to the girl that they used to know?
Stop now,
Better think twice
They can kiss goodbye to their good advice
You?ll never change girl, change girl
Hey look
You?ve got a new dress
But it don?t mean much if your head?s a mess
I don?t believe
You?ll ever change girl, change girl
You?re the best
This is not a game
You don?t have to take the blame
They?re selling their souls on the radio
Still, looking for God and a Romeo
And the world don?t even matter when
You?re alone inside
And the girl stares from a photograph
But she can?t disguise...
The song "Change Girl" by Joni Fuller is a melodic track that touches on the struggles of identity and the need for acceptance. The lyrics "I could read your mind, but I just don't have the time" suggest that the singer sees more in the subject of the song than meets the eye, but they are too preoccupied to delve deeper. The line "Lost, over the bridge, can you make it home?" may be a reference to the challenges of growing up and finding one's place in the world. The chorus, "Nowhere to run, you'll never change girl" implies that the subject is perhaps stuck in their ways and resistant to change.
The verse "They're selling their souls on the radio, still looking for God and a Romeo" speaks to the pressures of society to conform to certain standards, both in terms of materialism and romantic ideals. Despite all of this, however, the lyrics maintain a note of hope in lines such as "And the world don't even matter when you're alone inside" and "And she can't disguise...you're the best." Ultimately, "Change Girl" can be interpreted as a call to recognize and embrace one's true self, even if it means going against the grain.
