Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart
Joni James Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It haunted me from the start
Something inside of me started a symphony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart
'Twas like a breath of spring, heard a robin sing
About a nest set apart
All nature seemed to be in perfect harmony
Your eyes made skies blue again
What else could I do again
Keep repeating through again
"I love you, love you"
I still recall the thrill, guess I always will
I hope 'twill never depart
All nature seemed to be in perfect harmony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart
Your eyes made skies blue again
What else could I do again?
Keep repeating through again
"I love you, I do love you"
I still recall the thrill, I guess that I always will
I hope 'twill never depart
All nature seemed to be in perfect harmony
Zing! Went the strings of my heart
Joni James's song "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart" is a classic love song filled with nostalgia about a romantic encounter that seemed to light up the world around the storyteller. The song begins with the singer reminiscing about the moment they first laid eyes on their lover. The singer describes how the encounter led to a melody that haunted them from the beginning. The singer then describes how, as the symphony inside started, the strings of their heart "zinged". The use of the word "zing" denotes the impact their lover had on the singer, causing a sudden and intense feeling of pleasure.
In the second verse, the singer uses nature to describe the beauty of the moment they encountered their lover. The singer compares the feeling inside them to a robin singing about a nest that was set apart, indicating that the love between the singer and their lover is unique and special. They continue to describe how nature seemed to be in perfect harmony, again using the image of music to describe their feelings. The verse culminates with the repetition of the line "Zing! Went the strings of my heart", emphasizing the intensity of the feeling the singer experienced.
The final verse echoes the sentiments of the previous verse as the singer describes how their lover caused the skies to be blue again. This leads into a repetition of the powerful lines, "What else could I do again? Keep repeating through again." The singer then concludes the song by expressing that they will always remember the thrill of that moment and hope that it will never depart.
