Good Morning Little School Girl
Jonny Lang Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Good mornin' little schoolgirl
Can I go home with you
Tell your mama and your daddy
That I'm a little school boy too
Baby I love ya', I just can't help myself
Your so good lookin' pretty baby
I don't need nobody else
Good mornin' little school girl
Can I go home with you
Ooo, ooo, ooowee

I'm gonna leave you baby
About the break of the day
On account of the way you treat me
I've got to stay away
Good mornin' little schoolgirl
Can I go home with you
Tell you mama and your daddy
I'm a little school boy too
Come on home pretty baby
Oh ya know I can't help myself
Ooo, ooo, ooowee

I' gonna buy me an airplane
And fly all over your town
And tell everybody, baby
Lord knows you've been puttin' me down
I can't stand it baby
Just can't stand it baby
Just can't help myself
Your so young and pretty
But your in love with somebody else
Good morin' little school girl
Can I go home with you
Ooo, ooo, ooowee

Oh, baby what you do to me
Oh, I can't help myself

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Jonny Lang's "Good Morning Little School Girl" are about a young man's attraction to a girl who is still in school. He is asking her if he can go home with her and meet her parents. He tells her that he is a little schoolboy too and that he can't help but love her. He is infatuated with her and doesn't want anyone else. However, as the song goes on, he realizes that he can't keep pursuing her. He is going to leave her because he can't stand the way she treats him. He can't help himself because he loves her so much, but he knows that he needs to stay away from her.

The song is about the struggles of young love and how it can be confusing and complicated. The singer is torn between his love for the schoolgirl and his realization that he needs to move on from her. The repetition of "Good mornin' little school girl, can I go home with you" emphasizes his persistence in trying to win her over while "I'm gonna leave you baby about the break of the day" shows his eventual decision to walk away from the relationship.

JL is an amazing guitar player and vocalist. He ranks right up there with SRV, KWS and Bonamassa. I've been to many of his shows and he never disappoints.

i've loved jonny's music since the day I saw a story about the upcoming lie to me album on mtv when he was 17 and i was maybe 13. to this day I can't think of anyone in the blues scene to rival his best songs. a blues master since he was too young to vote.
