The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The current line-up consists of Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis. The band's best-selling album is 1982's Screaming for Vengeance, with their most commercially successful line-up featuring Ian Hill, Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, guitarist K. K. Downing, and drummer Dave Holland. Tipton and Hill are the only two members of the band to appear on every album.
Halford's operatic vocal style and the twin guitar sound of Downing and Tipton have been a major influence on heavy metal bands. Judas Priest's image of leather, spikes, and other taboo articles of clothing were widely influential during the glam metal era of the 1980s. The Guardian referred to British Steel as the record that defines heavy metal. Despite a decline in exposure during the mid-1990s, the band has once again seen a resurgence, including worldwide tours, being inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors in 2006, receiving a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2010, and having their songs featured in video games such as Guitar Hero and the Rock Band series. In 2022, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Winter Retreat
Judas Priest Lyrics

Got no pillow for my head
And thought winter,it gets stronger
Got to ease my achin' head
In the morning' when I wake up
Got this feelin' deep inside
And I wonder if I'm dyin'
I've this helpless awful feelin'
When I stumble thought the crowd
It still sends my senses reelin'
Knowing winter comes too proud
Now winter in face from my face
My heart will no longer race
Since mind got from the sky
Mostly pulls eyes from me eyes
Warm breezes back to my soul
Did it show that I grows
The lyrics of Judas Priest's song Winter express the feelings of a person who is going through a rough phase in their life. The first two lines of the song symbolize the lack of comfort and security in the person's life. In the winter season, when the cold weather gets stronger, the person's head starts to ache, and they feel the need to ease their pain.
When the person wakes up in the morning, they feel a deep sense of uncertainty and wonder if they are dying. The feeling of helplessness and being lost in the crowd is overwhelming. The coming of winter just adds to their troubles and makes it harder for them to cope.
However, as the song progresses, the person finds hope and solace in warm breezes that bring peace to their soul. They feel as if their mind has been lifted from the dark sky, and their eyes are free to wander. The winter no longer bothers them, and their heart no longer races. They feel a sense of growth and renewal within themselves.
Overall, the song Winter is a powerful portrayal of the emotions that come with struggling through a tough time in life. It reflects the darkness and despair that can consume someone during the cold, harsh winter season, but also the hope and resilience that can emerge in the end.

The non-noise part of the song of where the actual music comes in sounds almost just like the "Discovery" part of 2112 song from RUSH.
