Close Your Eyes
Judith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace
To be like Him
Oh to be like Him
Blessed redeemer
Pure as thou art
Come in thy sweetness
Come in thy fullness
Stand thine own image
Deep on my heart
Face to face
Is my desire
Face to face
To be consumed by your holy fire
Face to face
Where I receive my freedom
Face to face
In the presence of the Lord
Face to face
Where there are miracles
Face to face
Where you remove all obstacles
Face to face
Where I receive your plan for my life
Face to face
In the presence of the Lord
Face to face
Where there are miracles
Face to face
Where you remove all obstacles
Face to face
Where I receive your plan for my life
Face to face
Face to face
Face to face
In the presence of the Lord
Face to face
In the presence of the Lord
Face to face
In the presence of the Lord

Face to face
In the presence of the Lord

Overall Meaning

Judith Christie-McAllister's song "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" medley is a call to turn away from the distractions of the world and focus on Jesus. The lyrics emphasize the transformative power of gazing upon Jesus and the resulting dimming of the world's attractions. The second half of the song is a longing to be more like Jesus, to have His image deeply imprinted on the heart and to be consumed by His holy fire. The repeated refrain of "face to face" expresses the desire for direct, personal communion with God where miracles happen and obstacles are removed.

The song has a simple yet powerful message that resonates with many Christians. It is a reminder to not lose sight of what is truly important and to prioritize a relationship with God above all else. The inclusion of the line "to be like Him, blessed redeemer, pure as thou art" is a reference to the hymn "Take My Life and Let It Be," which emphasizes the desire to surrender every aspect of one's life to God's will.

Far away and years ago
We were blind the dead had soul
Waiting here where you don't know

Razor clam's reverberate
What about the motorway?
I could beg before I could walk

But I want you to see what I still see
So lay it on me

If you see me when your eyes close
Oh no, well I won't let you down
If you see me when your eyes close
If you see me when your eyes close
I'll always be around

Nothing wants to live round here
Need you now but nature's cold
We were young when lead was gold

But I want you to see what I still see
So lay it on me

If you see me when your eyes close
Oh no, well I won't let you down
If you can't hear what I'm saying
Oh no, I'll always be around

So why don't you lay it on me

I agree with the view that it is indeed a surprise that Puressence never made it big, yet you can have a load of talentless numpties on for example - the x- factor - who have "made it" !!!!!
