The lyrics to Juice WRLD & Future's song "Shorty" revolve around themes of power, violence, and the consequences that come with living a life of crime. The song opens with the warning of a tsunami, which serves as a metaphorical representation of the imminent danger that these artists face in their lives. The line "The tsunami warnin' has been issued" suggests that they are constantly under threat and must be prepared for any situation.
The title of the song, "Shorty," is used throughout the lyrics to refer to someone who is close to them, possibly a partner or accomplice. They advise this person to "study around" and not be in a rush, indicating that careful planning and patience are essential when engaging in illegal activities. The line "Bust shit down" suggests that they are skilled at breaking into and robbing places.
The lyrics also touch upon their lifestyle of luxury and excess. They mention being "geeked" on Molly, a popular party drug, and not being able to feel their teeth. They boast about owning a new car without needing keys and wearing Gucci on their fleece. However, they also make it clear that these material possessions are not accessible to just anyone. They proclaim that if you haven't participated in criminal activities with them, you won't be able to enjoy the same lifestyle, stating, "You ain't hit no stain with me, then naw, you ain't gon' eat, shorty." This highlights the exclusivity and loyalty they expect from their associates.
The lyrics of "Shorty" depict a gritty, violent reality where money, power, and survival take precedence. It suggests a world where trust is rare, and one must be willing to do whatever it takes to secure their position. The song captures the atmosphere of a dangerous urban environment where individuals navigate through life on the edge, fully aware of the risks involved.
