Roberts began performing country music as a child. When she was in junior high and high school, she toured with her family, playing at festivals in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. She also performed at area nursing homes (where she developed an appreciation for blues music); and worked at Carowinds (a theme park in Charlotte, North Carolina) and Dollywood.
A graduate of Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, Roberts began working for Mercury Records, later becoming assistant to label head Luke Lewis. During her tenure there, she began perfecting her singing skills and recorded a demo tape. Producer Brent Rowan liked what he heard and invited Lewis to hear the tape. Lewis liked what he heard, but it was only after he asked for the singer's identity that he learned it was Roberts.
Roberts was signed to Mercury Records, and her self-titled album was released in 2004.
A second album for Mercury, Men & Mascara, followed in 2006. This album produced two non-charting singles in its title track and a cover of Saving Jane's "Girl Next Door".
Her influences include Dolly Parton, Barbara Mandrell and Tanya Tucker.
Good Wine and Bad Decisions
Julie Roberts Lyrics

We both know it won't stay on for long
And these heels all they're good for
Is walking through your door and laying on your bedroom floor
Good wine and bad decisions
A little lovin' never hurt no one
Good wine and bad decisions
Ain't hurt nobody, got no one at home
Sometimes a girl just don't like to be alone
Two old flames burning bright, oh it sure feels right
If only for one night
Good wine and bad decisions
A little lovin' never hurt no one
Good wine and bad decisions
I'll be gone when the morning comes
Good wine and bad decisions
A little lovin' never hurt no one
Good wine and bad decisions
I'll be gone when the morning comes
Yeah, I'll be gone when the morning comes
In Julie Roberts's song Good Wine and Bad Decisions, the singer is singing about a night of reckless abandon with a past lover. She sings about how it doesn't matter what dress she puts on because they both know it won't stay on for long. She has come for one thing and one thing only; a night of passion with her ex-lover. The heels she is wearing are only good for walking through his door and then laying on his bedroom floor. The lyrics suggest that this is not a planned event but more of a spontaneous hookup fueled by drink and lust.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Good wine and bad decisions" as if to suggest that the two go hand in hand. The singer is aware of the danger in this situation but is willing to indulge in it for the night. She sings that a little loving never hurt anyone, convincing herself that this night of passion is harmless. The final verse tells us that there are no significant others to hurt in this arrangement, and sometimes a girl just doesn't like to be alone. Two old flames are burning bright, and it feels right, but only for one night. The singer knows that she will be gone before the morning comes, leaving behind the consequences of her bad decision-making.
