Emily
Junior Mance Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Has the murmuring sound of may
All silver bells, coral shells, carousels
And the laughter of children at play
Say Emily, Emily, Emily
And we fade to a marvelous view
Two lovers alone and out of sight
As my eyes visualize a family
They see Emily, Emily
(and we fade to a marvelous view)
Two lovers alone and out of sight
Seeing images in the firelight
As my eyes visualize a family
They see Emily, Emily
Too
The song “Emily” is a beautiful tribute to a woman, whose very name inspires a picturesque scenery of happy moments filled with colors, sounds of laughter and child’s play. The song opens with the repetition of the name “Emily, Emily, Emily,” followed by metaphors describing how the name sounds like the murmuring of may. This personification of the name “Emily” helps listeners to see the character as a beautiful representation of spring, which is a season of blooming and renewal. Furthermore, the song lyrically describes Emily as a person who filled with joy, with music such as silver bells, coral shells, and carousels. These beautiful descriptions depict Emily as a person who brings light to the lives of others, especially children who enjoy playing and laughing with her.
The second half of the song creates images of Emily's sentimental value to the singer. In the lyrics "Two lovers alone and out of sight, seeing images in the firelight, as my eyes visualize a family," it shows Emily is a treasure that brings together the love of two individuals, building beautiful memories, and even envisioning beautiful moments in the future. The song symbolizes the happiness that Emily brings to everyone's life and how she has become an integral part of their lives.
