Where Are You Now?
Justin Bieber Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I need you, I need you, I need you, I need you, I need you
I need you the most
I gave you the key when the door wasn't open
Just admit it
See, I gave you faith, turned your doubt into hoping, can't deny it
Now I'm all alone and my joys turned to moping
Where are you now? (where are you now?)
Where are you now that I need ya?
Couldn't find you anywhere
When you broke down I didn't leave ya
I was by your side
So where are you now that I need ya?
Where are you now that I need ya?
Where are you now that I need ya?
Where are you now that I need ya?
Where are you now that I need ya?
I gave you attention when nobody else was payin', hm
I gave you the shirt off my back whatchu sayin'
To keep you warm
I showed you the game everybody else was playin', that's for sure
And I was on my knees when nobody else was prayin', oh Lord
Where are you now that I need ya?
Where are you now that I need ya?
I need you, I need you, I need you, I need you, I need you, (Where are you now that I need ya?)
I need you, I need you, I need you, I need you, I need you
I need you the most
Where are you now that I need ya?
Where are you now that I need ya?
Where are you now that I need ya?
I need you the most
I need you the most
I need you the most
In this song, Justin Bieber is expressing his disappointment and loneliness after being let down by someone who he thought was close to him. He gave this person attention and helped them through a tough time, but when he needed them, they were nowhere to be found. The repetition of the line "Where are you now that I need ya?" emphasizes the desperation and frustration he feels. He gave this person a key to his heart when they were closed off, gave them faith when they had none, and was there for them when they were down. But now that he's the one who needs support, they are not there for him.
The use of contrasting imagery in the song is also noteworthy. Bieber talks about how he gave the person his shirt to keep them warm, but now he's the one left out in the cold. He was on his knees praying for this person when nobody else cared, but now he feels abandoned. This juxtaposition highlights the unfairness of the situation and adds to the emotional weight of the lyrics.
