Spiral
Kaela Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When you call me at night just to say you're mine
Oh you're so funny when you hit that line
When you call me at night just to say you're mine
Grief like a spiral I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when (It's over)
It makes me nauseous
But I can't stop this
Wish we had an out when walls were closing in
Find me next lifetime
'Cus I would do it again
But it wouldn't be the same thing
Won't be fucking your friend
Don't know about our radical ideals
(Been four months we've been getting on with our lives)
Just cus it feels good doesn't mean it is good
(Held my breath, now I'm on the other side)
Everything changes, and everything dies
(Just cus it feels good doesn't mean it is good)
Grief like a spiral I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Oh you're so funny when you hit that line
When you call me at night just to say you're mine
Oh you're so funny when you hit that line
When you call me at night just to say you're mine
Swimming in dream matter
(Oh you're so funny when you hit that line)
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
(When you call me at night just to say you're mine)
Oh doesn't matter
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Dream matter
(Oh you're so funny when you hit that line)
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
(When you call me at night just to say you're mine)
Doesn't matter
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Swimming in dream matter
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Oh doesn't matter
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Dream matter
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Doesn't matter
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
The lyrics to Kaela's song "Spiral" seem to illustrate a tumultuous relationship, possibly with a partner who can be funny but also hits hard emotional "lines". The singer seems to be caught in a cycle of grief that resembles a spiral, causing them to feel like a child who keeps falling and trying to get back up. They also mention being "swimming in dream matter" which could indicate feeling lost or confused. Despite wanting to leave this pattern behind, the singer can't seem to and wishes they could just be woken up when it's all over.
The lyrics later mention a desire for a fresh start in a new lifetime, but also acknowledge that it couldn't be the same thing twice. It also touches on the idea that just because something feels good, it doesn't necessarily mean it's positive or helpful. This could be a nod to the cyclical nature of the relationship and the singer's struggle to break free from it.
Overall, the lyrics to "Spiral" convey feelings of being trapped in a cycle of emotional pain, struggling to break free from it, and wishing for something better in the future.

I love this remix so much! I met Sophie and Tucker when I was playing with M83 and they were opening, and like soo many people I fell in love with them and their music!! Thankfully we stayed in touch, and when I wrote โSpiralโ I thought of them for it thinking it would fit their style for a remix + I couldnโt stop daydreaming of their sound on it. Well, they said yes and Iโm so happy that they did and that itโs out now! Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do! ๐

Daydreaming is exactly the word for it! You have the most soothing voice I've heard in a long while, which suits this song incredibly well. Keep doing what you do, and I'll be sure to continue listening!

We love this remix + we love Kaela! 4 years ago we went on tour with M83 and the band were all so welcoming & nice to us. We became good friends with the insanely talented keyboardist, Kaela Sinclair. When we heard her solo project and Spiral, we immediately loved it. Releasing stuff with friends is the best thing ever ๐
