Gervais has repeatedly denied suggestions that Pilkington is an invented character, claiming that Karl's unique qualities are beyond his powers of imagination. Pilkington's remark "I could eat a knob at night" made during a conversation about the 'bush tucker trials' in I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! has spawned much internet interest, as well as merchandise and music. His comic style depends on a completely deadpan delivery coupled with an apparent inability to recognise the idiocy of his world view.

Am I the only one who thinks that having a beer with Icke wouldn't be such a bad experience. I know about all his kooky beliefs, but he came off as much more likable and (surprisingly) down to earth, compared to some of the others.

Your latter possibility is what I would think if Icke isn't legit, if anything. I don't watch his stuff any more, but for me he kick started a personal fascination with the universe and quantum physics. You want to talk about disinformation then lets talk about Alex Jones and his ilk! People like that almost always have their own selfish agenda, as they are basically fear-mongers saying everything is a conspiracy while at the same time offering ZERO solution. I'm sure Icke is loaded now, but how long has he been on this stuff, adding to as he goes? 25 years now? That sort of constant exposure kinda separates him from others, as a 25 year long 'plot' of any kind would be hard to maintain.

@Jordan Dodd That is what makes the disinfo so good though is to mix it with real info. It takes people off the real trail because he gains followers AND it makes it so people in the mainstream ignore the true info he provides. He is discrediting conspiracy theorists intentionally.

But someone also brought up the possibility that someone from the elite tricked Icke by making him believe this reptilian stuff to make Icke discredit himself.

I think that could be possible, but because he is right about so many things, it just seems that too much correct info is being revealed for it to be disinformation. But then you look at it from another angle: why hasn't he been bumped off by these elites? Personally I think it would be too obvious and they don't or can't, but regardless, his shit is interesting to listen to.

Karl takes a pipe, as directed. To that, Will mentions some Tony Ben to, again, sound smart and, again as a bonus, openly assumes Karl's ignorance for not knowing of this person. When Karl asks the question, "does intelligence equal happiness", Will claims it's not for him to judge, moments after calling Karl ignorant.
The "fuck off" comment was just the tip of the iceberg.
There are pretentious people everywhere. In fact, I've just sat here, typing a long opinion to make myself seem smart. No denial. But Will was very self-entitled and probably proud of what he said.

Actually, that's arguable. According to the Dunning-Kruger effect, you'd on average expect intelligent people to undervalue themselves. And unskilled/unintelligent people would overestimate their abilities because they'd fail to see their own ineptitude.
In order to examine this though, you'd have to define carefully what you mean by intelligence/skill

The way Karl asks questions isn't exactly like Socrates but I think a lot of the questions he poses can be asked today and can lead to more understanding. It is a slight bit of thinking outside of the box. While sometimes you might want to blow him off completely he does ask questions that could lead to a better understanding of philosophy.
AT the very least he challenges some of the steadfast philosophical questions. While he might not be the greatest mind I think that people with questions like his should at the very least have their questions considered.

I think the guy at the end - Will - did hit the nail on the head though. He pointed out that Karl really didn't want to be more knowledgeable... he didn't want to be like everyone else. The key is that Karl is just stubborn. For some reason he doesn't want to deal with conventional intellectualism. And you can see that about him.. he is very frustrated and negative about the way people think.

That's not necessarily a bad thing to want to be an individualist.. a lot of good things can come from that. We need people that go against the grain of conventional society.

Karl was open to try and learn from these other people and see what they had to say, how they think etc. while most of them quickly got frustrated with his way of thinking and shut him out. @jimmy2k4o That is true about not being able to re-evaluate everything constantly. I think that is why people are so hesitant to consider a lot of things they should. People are concerned with going about their primary responsibilities. That's also why it is so easy to deceive people though and why we miss out on so many big discoveries unfortunately.

I think the key is to not trash people for coming up with unusual things though. People don't necessarily have to devote their time to things outside the mainstream but if we just don't attack people for doing that then it won't be as big an issue.

I think the scene with Karl and the woman making bread is the best. He gets along better with the guy on the beach, but they are far more similar than different. It is obvious that the professor just completely walking out on him and the last scene with the writer are utterly pointless. The conversation with the woman was what this documentary was going for. Despite their huge differences in intelligence...they can still be civil and have humorous conversation.

Will is a prime example of why "smart" people often come off as unlikable. I read an article not too long ago about political candidates that I think applies to people in general, the more intellectual they sound, the more unlikable they are. Considering the average IQ is 100 it makes sense. If you're not taking into consideration who you're talking to, you can often sound like you're talking "down" to them.

Having been though mathematics at university, I wouldn't consider myself intelligent, nor would I consider people who haven't been exposed to mathematics at that level unintelligent. If anything, I consider it as a strike against me; a truly intelligent person would just be able to adapt to their surroundings and succeed, whereas I had to dumb myself down with four years of education in order to make the same adjustment. I'd happily pull a few pints with Karl, as he strikes me as being one of the most sincere people out there, whereas most of the "intelligent" people I've encountered are utter bores...and fools.

Granted, not everyone can handle intelligence. Karl knows this perfectly well. This video also explains this perfectly well. Most intelligent people, like the male Karl went to see, are either angry at the ignorant or depressed because there's more ignorant people than intelligent in the world. It comes with that said curse, along with the possible curse of finding out what reality truly is. Though, it's not always about just being intelligent. It's about what you do with that intelligence.

I really hate that the people get annoyed with Karl when he asks questions, even when some are silly questions such as the 'drawings of aliens' and such. There's no need to get annoyed. Just take the time to calmly explain your reasoning. Those kinds of reactions from so-called 'intellectuals' are exactly the reason some people are too scared of asking and seeking out new knowledge or coming up with new ideas. Have any of you watched "Derek", "An Idiot Abroad.", The Ricky Gervais show."(podcast) Seriously, Karls onsite, into life, it may be laughable but its a raw talent, it's natural brilliance, I don't find the man unintelligent at all, in fact, I see him with the most raw intelligence, seeking the basics of survival and happiness, what more is there. So one may find a cure, but, what if you waist a lifetime of happiness, and miss the mark. Wouldn't you rather love, and be happy? A low IQ doesnt equal life experience. Someone can know a lot about the world and life experiences but fucking suck at schooling.

Maybe if the pipe-guy had a bit more patience he could grow to understand the "pigs."

From a philosophical perspective I think the fictional character Hannibal Lecter is really interesting to study (especially the Mads Mikkelson version) as he views certain people as pigs as well as pigs in a fascinating light. Even the worst of them can be used as fuel for change. It's definitely twisted but at least Hannibal isn't rude, the Pipe-Man would've wound up on Dr. Lecter's table, heh....Hehe....

My mum in law was an educator for many years and was able to keep track of a lot of the kids that she taught, even before the digital age.
Over Christmas she was telling my brother in law, also an educator, that of her kids she saw a pattern that had no exception that she could find: If her simple kids offed themselves it was over lost love, if her bright kids offed themselves it was over (perceived) failure.
Bearing that in mind I kinda hope I'm simple. Seems more humane.
