As a songwriter, Bonoff's songs have been interpreted by other artists such as "Home" by Bonnie Raitt, "Tell Me Why" by Wynonna Judd, "Isn't Always Love" by Lynn Anderson. Also Linda Ronstadt has successfully recorded a number of her songs, including, "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me," "Trouble Again," "All My Life," "Falling Star" and "Goodbye My Friend," thus helping to introduce Bonoff to a larger audience.
In her early career, Bonoff sang background vocals for Linda Ronstadt and Wendy Waldman before releasing her debut album in 1977, titled Karla Bonoff (1977). Her other albums include Restless Nights (1979), Wild Heart of the Young (1982), New World (1988), and All My Life (a greatest hits collection) in 1999. Bonoff is best known as a songwriter, but she is also noted for her hit recording of "Personally", which reached number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1982. She also recorded "Standing Right Next To Me" on the "8 Seconds" movie soundtrack (1994) and "Somebody's Eyes" on the "Footloose" soundtrack (1984).
Karla's first live album was released in September 2007. This double CD includes many of her hits performed live in concert on October 24, 2004 (except for one song recorded July 30, 2005). She is backed by her touring band including Kenny Edwards (guitar, bass, mandolin, cello, vocals) and Nina Gerber (guitar) plus long time associate Scott Babcock (drums and vocals).
She is also a member of the currently inactive group Bryndle, which includes Wendy Waldman and Kenny Edwards. The band has also included Andrew Gold who left the band in 1996. The group had released three albums between 1995 and 2002.
Her songs recorded by Bonnie Raitt, Wynonna Judd, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, she herself hit 19 on the top 100 singing "Personally" written by P. Kelly. A writer from the heart, collaborated with Pete Seger and Frank Hamilton on "The Water is Wide." Although she released just four studio albums in her first 30 years as a recording artist, in 2007 she issued a well-received live album.

He came to me
He came straight to me
Now she's gonna find
The boy is mine
He is finally mine
I've got a feeling that she won't let go
Somebody's eyes are watching
Somebody's eyes are seeing me loving him
Somebody's waiting to take him back again
Love is no disguise
From somebody's eyes
Love is no disguise
From somebody's eyes
Does she know how much we like to touch
Does she know how much?
Does she know just how
I love his kiss
Does she know this
I've got a feeling that she must know oh no
'Cause every time I think that we're alone
Somebody's eyes are watching
Somebody's eyes are seeing me loving him
Somebody's waiting to take him back again
Love is no disguise
From somebody's eyes
Love is no disguise
From somebody's eyes
I've got a feeling that she must know
'Cause everywhere my baby and me go
Somebody's eyes are watching
Somebody's eyes are seeing me loving him
Somebody's waiting to take him back again
Love is no disguise
From somebody's eyes, somebody's eyes are watching
Somebody's eyes are seeing me loving him
Somebody's waiting to take him back again
Love is no disguise
From somebody's eyes, somebody's eyes are watching
Somebody's eyes are seeing me loving him
Somebody's waiting to take him back again
The lyrics of Karla Bonoff's song "Somebody" describe a woman who has fallen in love with someone who was previously in a relationship with another woman. The singer confesses that the man in question came to her after he was set free by his previous partner. This creates tension and uncertainty for the singer, as she fears that the previous partner is still watching, waiting to take him back. The song explores the idea that love is not always private, but rather subject to the scrutiny of others, and that the fear of being watched can create tension and uncertainty in a relationship.
The lyrics suggest that although the singer is in love with this man, the previous partner is still present in their lives, and that her presence is affecting their relationship. The use of the phrase "somebody's eyes" represents the idea that the previous partner is still watching and waiting to take back what was once hers. This creates a sense of unease for the singer as she fears that her happiness may be short-lived. The lyrics also suggest that the singer is aware that her relationship is being watched and scrutinized, but she is determined to hold onto her love, despite the potential risks.

Next year would be 40 years that this iconic movie came out. What a time to be alive and see something so spectacular. Whenever I hear this song I'm a teenager again. You know you look at things differently when you're older. You have such an appreciation for such a thing. Nostalgia at its finest.

I forgot about this song, it’s great! ❤
@markr.devereux3385
One of my favorites from FOOTLOOSE sound track. The best musical soundtrack in my lifetime in my opinion.
@kyliepollert8341
A great forgotten single that hardly gets the recognition it deserves.
@seaniebouy
The BEST song on that album. I wore this part of the cassette out in the 80's. Ahhhhh the 80's I miss them. :(
@terryyork6401
I wore out at least 3 cassettes and 2 CDs of this soundtrack.
Quite possibly, one of the best 80s movie soundtracks.😎
@AddieAFife
love that song!!!!!
@sanzman5064
This was my favourite song on this soundtrack too! And yep l wore out my cassette of it 😁
@jeffbaker7236
The only song on the Footloose soundtrack that doesn't come off like dorky cheese to me now. The last song on the album anybody knows about. It has my favorite ingredient in music: dark sounding minor chords. The song is basically a long hook that people may call 'catchy' but it doesn't sacrifice the compelling mood that those dark minor chords suggest. I love this.

She's an amazing artist!
