Build The Cities
Karma Fields Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Miles of fire
I'm losing ground
And in the flashing
My world comes crashing down
I'm left in nowhere
No place to hide
Out in the open
Like ashes in the sky
I could be losing

I'm moving on
I'm moving on

I let the flames light up the future
Making empires of sound
And she will chase becoming laughter
You burnt the bridges to build the cities

I let the flames light up the future
Making empires of sound
And she will chase becoming laughter
You burnt the bridges to build the cities

I let the flames light up the future
Making empires of sound
And she will chase becoming laughter
You burnt the bridges to build the cities

I let the flames light up the future
Making empires of sound
And she will chase becoming laughter

You burnt the bridges to build the cities
You burnt the bridges to build the cities

Overall Meaning

The opening lyrics to Karma Fields's "Build The Cities" describe a scene of chaos and destruction. Miles of fire suggest a wide-ranging or widespread disaster, in which everything the singer has known or relied upon has been destroyed. The flashing could represent flames or explosions, with the light of the destruction temporarily blinding the singer. Everything they knew, including hiding places or safe zones, has been destroyed, leaving them "out in the open / like ashes in the sky." The metaphor of ashes could represent the remains of what once was, now drifting and falling at random like lost memories.

In the chorus, the singer seems to reject despair and embrace the chaos as an opportunity for rebirth. The fire that has destroyed everything is now transformed into a tool for building something new, creating "empires of sound." The mention of laughter represents joy and lightness, which the singer hopes to chase after. The line "you burnt the bridges to build the cities" can be interpreted both literally and metaphorically. In the literal sense, it could refer to the idea that a city must be built from the ashes of the old one. But in a more philosophical sense, it suggests that sometimes we must let go of the past and destroy what we once knew in order to move forward and create something better.

Once again, Rootkit has left me wondering as to what kind of human can open up a computer and produce a sound as perfect as he can. I like house and I love this, the drop, the build up, the whole damn thing was astonishing. This genuinely rivals the likes of Tchami, well it does to me anyway. Stick to making house Rootkit, because this was a 10/10, amazing masterpiece.
