I've got for you
I've painted black and blue
All for you
The rainbow
It's no longer livin' here
Don't bother
Carelessly yours
I ain't anymore
I'm no Juliet anymore
Picked myself up from the floor
Found my way to the door
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Carelessly yours
I ain't anymore
Carelessly yours
Trace my path downtown
Give it back, give it back
You fool, give it back
I gave you all these years
I gave you all my tears
Give it back, give it back
You fool, give it back
I gave you all these years
I gave you all my tears
Time is slowly moving on
Here I am, all alone
Waiting for the unknown
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Carelessly yours
I ain't anymore
Carelessly yours
Trace my path downtown
The song “Juliet” by Karsu narrates a story of a woman who is done with being treated carelessly by someone she gave her all to. In the opening lines, she declares that she has exhausted all the colors she had in her palette by painting herself black and blue for the one she loves. However, she realizes that no matter how colorful she has been, the person still does not appreciate her.
The rainbow, a symbol of color and hope, now seems to have faded away leaving her with a reality that she cannot handle anymore. She declares that she is no longer the Juliet character, referring to the female lead in Shakespeare’s famous play Romeo and Juliet, who was deeply in love with Romeo. She has picked herself from the floor and found her way towards the door, ultimately leaving her lover behind.
Through the different parts of the song, the singer repeats the question “why” several times, possibly to find closure or to understand why her lover treated her carelessly. She also takes charge of her life, stating that she is no longer carelessly his and he should trace her path downtown. The song is a powerful statement about self-love, self-worth, and moving on from the neglectful actions of a lover.
